Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Chef Manager to lead the culinary operations for an education account in Charleston County, SC. This role requires a candidate with strong culinary expertise, school food service experience, and catering background. In addition, financial acumen, including P&L accountability, is a key aspect of this role. You will be responsible for ensuring the success of the food service operation, delivering exceptional meals to students and staff, and maintaining high standards for both quality and cost control. The position's schedule may include some nights and weekends.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead all aspects of food service operations, including menu development, ordering, receiving, and inventory management.
  • Manage food cost controls, purchasing, and inventory, while ensuring P&L accountability for the operation.
  • Focus on sourcing and utilizing local food products while maintaining a strong commitment to sustainability practices.
  • Supervise, train, and mentor culinary staff, fostering a collaborative and efficient team environment.
  • Maintain exceptional standards for food quality, sanitation, production, and presentation.
  • Ensure all operations meet health and safety standards, including sanitation and food safety procedures.
  • Engage with students and staff through exposition cooking, adding an interactive element to the dining experience.
  • Work schedule may include nights and weekends to ensure smooth operations during peak meal times.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in a school food service environment is required.
  • Proven experience in catering operations, particularly in high-volume settings.
  • Strong understanding of financials, including P&L accountability and cost control management.
  • Strong working knowledge of HACCP (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point) standards.
  • Minimum of 3 years in culinary management, preferably in contract food service, fine dining, or restaurant environments, with a focus on inventory and purchasing control.
  • Experience with exposition cooking is highly preferred.
  • ServSafe certification is a plus.
