Job Description

The Supervisor - Verification works closely with other leaders of the organization; particularly Scheduling, Surgical, and Clinical practices. The position will communicate effectively and provides utmost customer service to all customers; both internal and external. The position oversees the daily coordination of efforts with departments, payers, and patients; this includes the supervision of all team members in outpatient/inpatient verification and Oncology Access Specialists. This position monitors daily operating activity: making any adjustments in work assignments to ensure notice of admissions are secured timely protecting the organization from denials, authorization obtained, and estimates created for the scope of encounters verified. This position monitors productivity and ensure timely and accurate completion of patients scheduled at a Baptist Healthcare location. This person, in conjunction with their manager, will research and resolve any errors or questions that arise from day-to-day operations, managing up those necessary.

The Supervisor - Verification ensures each of these aspects of proper financial clearance are completed for all scheduled encounters, surgical cases, and admissions across the organization. The position works with our vendor partners to create an efficient optimized workflow with each system use. The Supervisor actively audits the teamwork product ensuring regulatory and departmental procedure compliance. The Supervisor - Verification, in working with the Manager of Access Support Services, ensures open communication is shared with all points of Access leadership on status of accounts, trends identified in audit, and daily work queues.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees all facets of the verification process to ensure work is being processed efficiently and accurately
  • Understands fully the functionality of and trains team members in all verification work flows and patient access related systems.
  • Understands all aspects of verification protocols and processes for departments within Baptist Health Care and the Physician Enterprise.
  • Performs Quality Assurance (QA) on all team members per Departmental guidelines and provides exception reports to staff and Management.
  • Completes all divisional education requirements in a timely manner
  • Under the direction of the manager, the supervisor performs the following duties but not limited to: responsible to maintain a competent, highly trained staff and ensure a high level of accuracy and completeness from verification personnel; assist and or completes Time and Attendance for Verification Department; provides daily supervision for the team's verification activities and performance of personnel; ensuring adequate staffing to meet departmental needs by maintaining a 4 week schedule; Responsible for the Verification Department reaching and maintaining related Baptist Healthcare goals; compiles and reconciles daily, weekly and monthly QA reports and submits reports to Manager; participate in interview of all perspective employees and presenting offer to selected applicant; and protocol and procedure
  • implementation, along with communication with staff and Leadership to ensure new implementation processes are followed, tracked, and reach final implementation within timeline assigned.
  • Supervises team members which include orientation, development and evaluation of personnel, and monitoring the provision of delivering quality services. Participates in the recruiting, interviewing and selecting of team members following policies, guidelines and applicable laws. Evaluates their performance relative to job goals and requirements. Provides coaching to staff, recommends in-service education programs, and ensures adherence to internal policies and standards.
  • Effectively communicates departmental, organization, and industry information to staff.
  • Is responsible for the department's operational excellence and ensures that the department delivers quality services in accordance with applicable policies, procedures, and professional standards.


Qualifications

2 years relevant experience (patient access, financial assistance, insurance billing, patient and/or insurance collections, reimbursement, customer service, payer contracting, or coding) or supervisory experience/leadership role requiring customer service and data management required

1-3 years Supervisory experience in health care revenue cycle function required

1-3 years Insurance verification experience in a hospital setting preferred
