Position Purpose:

This role plays a key part in implementing strategic initiatives, coordinating with functional teams, and establishing performance metrics to optimize payroll service delivery. Reporting to the Director of Payroll, the Senior Manager of Payroll has direct reports including the Payroll Manager and Payroll Tax Manager.

Key Job Activities:
  • Oversee the accurate and timely processing of payroll for a diverse workforce, including salaried, hourly, and unionized employees across the US and Canada, ensuring compliance with both regional labor laws and union agreements while maintaining high standards of efficiency and accuracy.
  • Responsible for the implementation and delivery of strategic initiatives identified by payroll leadership.
  • Facilitates the coordination of payroll delivery across functional teams, ensuring a collaborative and cohesive payroll service delivery model.
  • Establish and maintain key performance indicators (KPIs) for team to ensure optimal performance.
  • Oversees the compliance and reporting of functional payroll metrics and standards.
  • Reviews, researches, and responds to escalated payroll inquiries submitted by employees, managers, the field, and other inquiry sources
  • Provide leadership in identifying potential risks, are proficient in avoiding or managing liabilities, and contribute to setting the regulatory and compliance agenda within the organization.
  • Possess deep knowledge of the end-to-end payroll process and operational strategy.
  • Maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders and demonstrate an ability to resolve complex issues that arise in payroll service delivery.
  • Comprehend the broader business implications of the payroll function and contribute proactive insights to optimize payroll processes.
  • Propose solutions and mitigate risk before issues arise within payroll delivery.
  • Performs other related duties as required or requested.
Experience:
  • Education/Certifications: Bachelors Degree in Business, Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • 10 or more years of progressive experience leading payroll functions (in additional to education requirement)
  • Proficiency with ADP preferred.

Licenses and Required Competencies

  • Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC) or Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) - required upon hire
