Membrane R&D Engineer - White Bear Lake, MN

We have an opportunity for an Engineer to join our R&D team in White Bear Township, MN. You will utilize membrane synthesis techniques, mass transfer fundamentals, system engineering, and chemical processes to develop new membranes and systems for a variety of applications. These membranes will be used in a variety of applications in Pentair's businesses, ranging from industrial filtration to drinking water purification. Our solutions help businesses design sustainable separation processes in a new world of sustainable practices.

You will:

  • Lead R&D initiatives for new membrane technologies and systems.
  • Research cutting-edge membrane materials and apply this research to challenging separations across Pentair's portfolio.
  • Transform new and existing materials into high performance membrane modules and filtration systems.
  • Work cross-functionally with internal and external partners to drive projects forward.
  • Collect background material as guidance for new industries, markets, and applications.
  • Design and perform lab-scale and pilot-scale tests which are aligned with the performance criteria of stakeholders and customers.
  • Build new test stands and develop standard work methods when research needs require.
  • Manage R&D projects within Pentair's technology development process.
  • Write and conduct design validation and process validations plans.
  • Apply for patents when inventing novel materials or membrane systems and applications.
  • Accurately and neatly record all test data in laboratory record books and maintain well commented electronic data files. Perform data analysis and keeps records of calculations and data analysis in permanent record files.
  • Follow all lab Chemical Hygiene Plan safety policies. Consult Safety Data Sheets (SDS) before working with hazardous chemicals and know location of and how to use safety equipment within the lab.
  • Prepare complete and accurate test reports based on data generated by testing and data analysis.
  • Prepare written and verbal summaries for upper level management, providing regular updates on work and developments.
  • Contact and arrange for outside testing services when necessary.
  • Collect and organize data for upgrading lab instrumentation and analytical methods. Test new analytical methods and methods' adaptations when required. Procure necessary materials for technology development and testing.

Key Qualifications:

  • Have earned a Bachelor's degree (B.A., B.S.) in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or Materials Science, Master's or Ph.D. preferred
  • Have 7+ years of experience in research and development
  • Has experience leading complex projects
  • Brings passion and energy to the workplace and drives towards creative solutions
  • Experience in building test equipment for unique experimental needs
  • Fact-based problem solving and plan development
  • Critical thinker and uses sound judgement
  • Able to work independently with minimal supervision or collaborate effectively with colleagues depending on project requirements
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Works efficiently and meets deadlines
  • Comfortable working with analytical instruments for technical analysis

Compensation:

For this full-time position working at this location, the anticipated annualized base pay range will be from $82,300- $152,800 / year. At Pentair, it is not typical for an individual to be hired near the bottom or top of the pay range. Pentair considers various factors in determining actual compensation for this position at the expected location. Actual compensation will be commensurate with demonstrable level of experience and training, pertinent education including licensure and certifications, work location, and other relevant business or organizational needs. This position may be eligible for other forms of compensation such as an annual incentive bonus.
