Role Summary

The Senior Vehicle Attributes Systems Engineer at Rivian will play a crucial role in shaping the future of our vehicles. Collaborating closely with experts across various technical domains, you will define and analyze the essential functions and requirements that drive our vehicle development. Your deep understanding of automotive systems engineering will enable you to translate these requirements into practical solutions, directly contributing to the creation of
Rivian's innovative vehicles and technologies. By working hands-on to bridge the gap between technical domains and program goals, you will play a key role in fulfilling Rivian's mission of Keeping the World Adventurous Forever.


Responsibilities

  • Define Vehicle-level functions, use cases, requirements & user stories
    * Decompose, allocate & cascade Vehicle functions & requirements to Subsystems

    * Analyze fleet data to refine Vehicle use cases & duty cycle definition

    * Work closely with Chassis, Body, Electrical & Controls Engineering teams to define
    System architectures

    * Define functional DVPs & test methods

    * Review functional & performance test reports for sign-off

    * Work closely with Attribute teams to define measures of System performance &
    effectiveness, ensure Attributes are aligned with DVPs and Test Specifications, and
    review Attribute test reports for sign-off

    * Lead cross-Attribute workstreams relevant to requirement definition & implementation

    * Work closely with simulation teams to ensure simulation test cases are correctly aligned
    to Use Cases & Attributes

    * As necessary, develop or revise simulation tools & toolboxes to address gaps relevant to
    function & attribute definition and/or analysis

    * Conduct Risk Analysis & Assessments for Vehicle functions & attributes

    * Work closely with Functional Safety, Homologation, Reliability, Durability, Sustainability
    and Service Engineering Teams to provide expertise on new or revised system designs,
    including architecture & new technologies, to assess their impact to the applicable
    subject areas, provide expertise on the decomposition & allocation of applicable
    requirements to Subsystems, and review test reports for sign-off

Qualifications

BS in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering required
* Minimum GPA of 3.0, 3.5 or higher preferred.
* Experience operating within a vehicle development cycle on a new vehicle or major
model change project from initial target setting phase through development, testing and
launch. Ideally having experienced at least one full, end-to-end development cycle

* 1-5 years' experience working in Vehicle Dynamics, Vehicle Architecture OR Systems
Engineering

* A strong understanding of vehicle dynamics & systems engineering

* Experience defining & decomposing system functions and requirements

* Experience creating system structural (i.e., Boundary) & behavioral (i.e., Activity,
Stateflow & Sequence) diagrams

* Experience with Systems Engineering tools/SysML (e.g., Cameo/NoMagic, Mathworks
Systems Composer, SysON, ModelIO, Papyrus, etc.)

* Experience with MATLAB/Simulink

* Experience conducting Design Failure Mode & Effects Analysis (DFMEA)

* Experience working with ISO 26262

Pay Disclosure

Salary Range/Hourly Rate for California Based Applicants: $135,100.00 - $168,900.00 (actual compensation will be determined based on experience, location, and other factors permitted by law).

Benefits Summary: Rivian provides robust medical/Rx, dental and vision insurance packages for full-time employees, their spouse or domestic partner, and children up to age 26. Coverage is effective on the first day of employment, and Rivian covers most of the premiums.
