The Staff Pharmacist is an integral member of the health care team, responsible for drug distribution, drug information, precepting pharmacy students and residents in the area of pharmacy distribution where applicable, participating in task forces and work groups and fostering excellent interdepartmental relationships. They also participate in general operational patient care activities and provides support to various pharmacy areas as needed. The Staff Pharmacist works in the Pharmacy Shared Services Center to facilitate drug distribution and provide drug therapy across the continuum of care. They provide quality and cost-effective pharmaceutical care to patients, employees, medical staff of UCDH.

Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position.
- California Pharmacist License eligible and possess a valid license at the time of hire
- Doctor of Pharmacy Degree (PharmD) or equivalent training
- 1 year of work experience in pharmacy supply chain or health system pharmacy practice
- Experience in pharmacy operations
- Working knowledge of federal and state/local regulations around medication handling requirements and controlled substance accountability
- Written and oral communication skills
- Interpersonal skills that establish and maintain a friendly, welcoming environment for customers; demonstrate an interested, understanding, compassionate manner; maintain a courteous and calm demeanor; and, proactively approach to negotiate with and persuade others to take required action.
- Ability to maintain composure, efficiency and a positive, customer-service oriented manner during periods of peak workload, with frequent interruptions, under tight deadlines, and when interacting with challenging customers who may be ill, angry, or emotionally distressed.
- Problem-solving skills to independently recognize and define a problem; identify the resources available to help solve the problem; create and implement viable solutions; and follow through to ensure the problem is resolved to the satisfaction of all parties.
- Decision-making skills to independently exercise delegated authority to take action, and to recognize when it is appropriate to seek assistance from others when limits of delegated authority have been reached.
- Computer skills allowing for analysis of large databases and including but not limited to Microsoft Office software
- Ability to work with, direct, and evaluate pharmacy residents and students
Preferred Qualifications
- Completion of Post Graduate Year 1 (PGY1) practice residency, or equivalent experience
- Experience using and/or management EMR and pharmacy automation systems, specifically inventory management systems
- Working knowledge of, and skill to apply practice, principles, and techniques related to inventory management

The Department of Pharmacy is a dynamic, integral, and critical part of patient care provided by UC Davis Health. As a department of greater than 600 professional, technical, and administrative support personnel, we focus on providing patient-centered medication management that optimizes outcomes through practice, education, research, and leadership through the continuum of care. We also have the largest pharmacy residency program in the country with 46 total residents in 13 different programs.
The Department of Pharmacy offers comprehensive pharmaceutical services (unit dose, IV admixtures, clinical services, infusion pumps, and teaching) throughout the health system complex 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The pharmacy services encompass inpatient pharmacy services as well as an expansive footprint in the ambulatory care space where we have clinical pharmacists embedded within our clinics and specialty care locations. Our operational teams support the health system enterprise with three inpatient pharmacies, five outpatient pharmacies, two infusion pharmacies, a home infusion service line, and the full complement of pharmacy purchasing, stores, and distribution.
Department Specific Job Scope
Involves all aspects of the medication use process, including procurement, prescribing, compounding, dispensing, storage of medications, administration and monitoring. Partners with physicians and other clinicians to provide treatments and advice to patients, records patient history relating to medication use and ensures the safe and secure storage of medications and related supplies. Advises physicians in determining the best possible treatments for specific diseases, stays current on pharmacy regulations, treatments and developments in research and design. Pharmacists are the experts on drug therapy and the primary health professionals who optimize use of medication for the benefit of the patients. Meets educational needs of patients, healthcare team, students and residents. Ensures adherence to regulatory and fiscal requirements.
