The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Position Summary

The Division of Women's Mental Health, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Columbia University Irving Medical Center in New York City seeks a full-time psychiatric nurse practitioner to provide psychopharmacology and psychotherapy care in the Women's Mental Health @Ob/Gyn service. The academic title will be determined by the candidate's qualifications.

The successful applicant will play a key role in shaping our integrated, insurance -based, mental health service via the provision evidenced-based psychotherapies for patients in the department. The ideal candidate will have a keen interest in women's mental health across the life course and/or experience with a perinatal population; have significant psychotherapy experience as well as an investment in the practice of it. The program currently consists of 14 providers across the different mental health disciplines: psychologists, social workers, LMHC, and psychiatric nurse practitioners. The position is available immediately.

Responsibilities but are not limited to:

* Providing short-term psychotherapeutic treatments (typically up to six months postpartum when needed).
* Collaborating with the service's Senior Leadership to implement new initiatives and build the program.
* Collaborating with other team members including administrative staff, medical students, residents, fellows, psychology and social work trainees and research staff.
* Overall, a majority of the service's work is conducted via telehealth; however, this job opening offers a unique opportunity to also see patients in person at Columbia Doctors' new Westchester site, as part of the new Women's Health Center of Excellence. The patient population is diverse racially, ethnically, socio-economically; commercial and government (Medicaid) insurance will be accepted.
* Participating in peer psychotherapy supervision.
* Providing supervision to trainees.
* The incumbent will perform and document comprehensive psychosocial health history examination (document pertinent positive and negative findings), and initiate/maintain a problem/medication list.
* Provide medication management and care coordination.
* Order and interpret diagnostic laboratory studies.
* Formulate a goal-directed plan that includes health maintenance, anticipatory guidance and appropriate medical and nursing interventions according to the established protocols.
* Conduct comprehensive screening on patients referred to the Women's Mental Health service
* Participate, review, disseminate, and incorporate research findings into clinical practice.
* Opportunity to engage in and supports research activities.
* Communicates effectively and professionally with patients about the patient's plan of care.
* Collaborate with other team members including administrative staff, medical students, residents, fellows, psychology and social work trainees and research staff.
* Demonstrates responsibility and accountability for Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant practice within their respective scope of care and the delivery of safe, competent patient care.
* Participates in maintaining a safe, therapeutic, and consumer-oriented environment.
* Comply with HIPAA Regulations, as well as compliance and safety guidelines.
* Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned/requested.

Minimum Qualifications

* Master of Science in Nursing plus three years of nursing or related experience.
* Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP).
* NYS RN and NP Licenses and ANCC Board Certification.
* BLS, ACLS, PALS (if applicable) Certification.
* DEA Certification.
* Strong leadership, communication and interpersonal skills to direct work, drive change and effectively collaborate.

Preferred Qualifications



  • OBGYN/women's health experience preferred.
  • Intermediate MS Office skills.
  • Ability to manage and coordinate a patient caseload.
  • Work within a collaborative agreement/protocol with a physician and health care team.
  • Demonstrate leadership ability to manage patients and interact effectively with peers.
