Job Announcement

The Fairfax County Health Department is a progressive public health leader serving 1.2 million residents from diverse ethnic, cultural, and economic backgrounds. Provides the day-to-day administrative support to for the School Health Division to ensure the efficient operation of the School Health Division. Responsible for managing and coordinating key administrative functions including scheduling substitute coverage for health room staff, supporting the recruitment of new staff through scheduling interviews and preparing interview materials. Additionally, the role includes scheduling training sessions, managing supply orders and ensuring the logistical and clerical needs of the School Health Division are met. Supports the administrative functions of the Medica Services Review Team (MSRT) program, contracted nursing services, and orientation. Functions in a timekeeper role to support the SH Division staff with time entry related activities in accordance with County and HDHR protocols.

Note: The assigned functional areas of this position are General Administrative, Office Management, Word Processing/Data Entry/ Reports and/or Customer Service and Client Management.


Employment Standards

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Any combination of education, experience and training equivalent to high school graduation and two years of experience providing administrative support in the assigned functional area(s).

CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED:

  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation - CPR (Required within 60 days)
  • AED (Required within 60 days)

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check, child protective services to the satisfaction of the employer.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • At least 2 years of experience as administrative assistant.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment with a proactive mindset, exercising good judgement and critical thinking skills.
  • A track record of successful collaboration with interdisciplinary teams and excellent customer service with the ability to interact in a friendly, service-oriented and professional manner with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Must communicate effectively through use of verbal, written, and electronic means. High level of proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office Suite.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Job is generally sedentary in nature, and requires walking, standing, sitting (for long periods of time), and kneeling, reaching, bending, climbing stairs; may be required to lift or carry up to 25 lbs. as required for the position. Uses hands to grasp, handle, or feel. Visual acuity is required to read data from paper and on a computer monitor or other electronic device; ability to operate keyboard driven equipment and computer and use of touchscreen; Position frequently communicates and must be able to exchange accurate information with others verbally and in writing. Generally, works in an office environment and may occasionally be required to perform job duties outside of the typical office setting. All duties performed with or without reasonable accommodations.
