About the Job

This temp casual/non-exempt position is located at the Rosemount Research and Outreach Center (RROC) which is part of the College of Food, Agricultural, and Natural Resource Sciences (CFANS). This position reports to the Agr Research and Production Manager. The RROC is located 25 miles southeast of the Twin Cities near Rosemount, Minnesota on 4,700 acres at the University of Minnesota's Outreach, Research and Education (UMore) Park.

For applicants not currently enrolled in an institute of higher education, this position is limited to a maximum of 67 days. Currently enrolled students at institutions other than the University of Minnesota are limited to a maximum of 100 days.

Position Responsibilities
This individual will assist a crew of seven Plant Science employees on grounds maintenance. Work will involve operation and service of 72" riding lawn mower, grass and weed trimmers.

  • Primary responsibility is to mow lawns, roadsides and other grassy areas.

Other Typical Tasks
(These examples do not include all possible tasks in this work and do not limit the assignment of related tasks in any position of this class.)

  • May involve handling hay bales, grain and seed bags
  • Hand pick rocks and weeds.
  • Pick up road side trash and repair or removal of fences.

Length of Position

  • Flexible (40 hours/week as weather permits), Monday - Friday, 7:30am-4:00pm, during the months of April - October 2025
  • Start Date: On or around April 17, 2025
  • End Date: On or around October 27, 2025
Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in high school or HS grad/GED and applicant must be 16 yrs. of age or older and have a valid driver's license.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of and experience operating a 72" riding lawn mower
About the Department

The RROC is one of eight regional research and outreach centers for the University of Minnesota under the College of Food, Agricultural and Natural Resource Sciences (CFANS). The RROC is a part of the Division of Translational Research and Engagement (TRE) and is an extension of the St. Paul Campus.

The RROC is supported by state legislative and revenue funds. Revenue funds come primarily from crop production.

The mission of the research and outreach centers is to support research and education that enhances quality of life through improving agricultural production systems and sustaining natural resources.

Many University departments conduct research, have equipment and maintain facilities at RROC. The RROC provides a land-based research site for approximately 40-45 faculty and their students each year. Faculty and students conducting research at the RROC are primarily from CFANS. A wide variety of research projects are ongoing in the areas of Agronomy and Plant Genetics, Animal Science, Entomology, Forest Resources, Horticultural Science, Plant Pathology, and Soil, Water & Climate.

Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $15.00 - $30.00 per hour; depending on education/qualifications/experience.
