Department: Carlson Consulting Enterprise, Carlson School of Management

Position Summary
The Carlson Consulting Enterprise (CCE) at the Carlson School of Management seeks a part-time Associate Director to support its mission of providing MBA and undergraduate students with hands-on consulting experience. This temporary, casual employee position is ideal for professionals with top-tier management consulting experience who are passionate about mentoring and developing future consultants.

The Associate Director will play a critical role in guiding student consulting teams as they tackle real-world business challenges for leading companies, nonprofits, and government organizations. They will provide strategic guidance, mentorship, and structured problem solving support to ensure high-quality client deliverables.

Key Responsibilities

  • Student Mentorship & Project Oversight
    - Provide weekly guidance to student consulting teams, ensuring they apply structured problem-solving techniques, analytical rigor, and effective communication.
    - Support students in developing hypotheses, conducting analyses, and crafting client recommendations aligned with top consulting standards.
    - Help students refine storytelling, slide decks, and executive-level presentations.
  • Client Engagement & Deliverables
    - Ensure student teams deliver high-impact insights to clients through structured workplans, interim updates, and final recommendations.
    - Offer guidance on client interactions, stakeholder management, and navigating complex business problems.
  • CCE Community & Professional Development
    - Participate in CCE team meetings and workshops to reinforce best practices in consulting methodologies.
    - Provide ad hoc career advice and networking support to students pursuing top-tier consulting roles.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree
  • 15+ years of post-consulting experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • PhD, MBA, or JD
  • At least 2 years of experience at a top-tier management consulting firm (e.g.McKinsey, BCG, or Bain).
  • Prior experience working with the Carlson Consulting Enterprise.
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor and coach students on consulting engagements.
  • Strong understanding of structured problem-solving, executive communication, and client management.
  • Availability to commit to approximately 5 hours per week per project.
  • Prior teaching, coaching, or mentoring experience in a business school or corporate setting.
  • Experience managing multi-stakeholder projects with corporate, government, or nonprofit clients.
  • Strong professional network within consulting and industry.
