About the Job

This is a 75% (30 hours/ week ) position located onsite at the University of Minnesota's Minnesota Landscape Arboretum located in Chaska, MN. Shifts may vary Monday through Sunday, 8 hours per shift for a total of 30 hours per week.

The Minnesota Landscape Arboretum is searching for two 75% time Attendants to assist with operations of dining services onsite. This position reports directly to Sous Chef and works closely with and can receive work direction from other senior food operations personnel. All employees at any given time may be expected to handle food and beverage including but not limited to the following: meat, beef, pork, chicken, fish, dairy products, nuts, vegetables, etc. Employees will be expected to follow safety, quality, and customer service standards.

The Minnesota Landscape Arboretum Attendant position is responsible for managing dishwashing stations, assisting with setting up and maintaining the kitchen areas, assisting with food preparation, stocking and organizing supplies, and ensuring the overall cleanliness of the food service location.

Any of the assigned duties may take place at various dining locations across the Arboretum campus (i.e. Farm at the Arb, Eatery Cafe, etc.). Regular attendance is an essential qualification
for this position.

This job may be designated as essential.

The following list of duties does not include all possible tasks and responsibilities, nor limits the assignment of additional related tasks including tasks typically performed by a lower Classification.

80%

  • Washes service ware, pots and pans by hand or using dishwashing machine
  • Maintains cleanliness of dish room and kitchen by completing daily, weekly and monthly cleaning tasks
  • Sweeps and mops floors using manual mop, broom or floor scrubber
  • Empties trash, recycling, compost and cardboard to include using mechanical equipment for compacting
  • Stores and stocks clean dishes, service ware, pots and pans
  • Returns dirty service ware and bussing stations to the dish room as needed and replaces bussing stations with clean bus tubs
  • Stocks, cleans and replenishes soap and chemical dispensers and hand washing stations
  • Assist in training and assigning tasks to student employees and new dishwashers
  • Elevates/reports to their supervisor any mechanical/operational issues for maintenance attention (operator care)
  • Performs other duties as assigned

  • Preps fresh fruits and vegetables

Qualifications

Minimum / Required Qualifications

  • Ability to meet the physical requirements of the assignment
  • Ability to interact in a public setting in a respectful and professional manner
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate in English
  • Ability to lift up to 25lbs regularly
  • Ability to lift up to 50lbs occasionally
  • Must be able to stand up for four (4) hours at a time

**Continued employment in this position is contingent upon: Passing Food Safety test during probation period. Reliable attendance at all scheduled shifts.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous food service and/or dishwasher experience
  • Possess safe knife handling skills
About the Department

Rootstock is the Arboretum's new cafe that just opened in Summer of 2024. Rootstock focuses on a plant forward, meat supported menu that sources locally as often as the seasons allow. The Minnesota Landscape Arboretum Attendant position is responsible for managing dishwashing stations, assisting with setting up and maintaining the kitchen areas, assisting with food preparation, stocking and organizing supplies, and ensuring the overall cleanliness of the food service location.

Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $21.63 per hour; depending on education/qualifications/experience

Time Appointment: 75% Appointment
