Position Summary
Reporting to the Associate General Manager of Content and Programming, the Assistant Program Director is directly responsible for overseeing and implementing WRTI's jazz strategy in service to WRTI's mission to champion music as a vital cultural resource. The Assistant Program Director selects and programs all weekday jazz shifts and is responsible for implementing WRTI's local music agenda through curating and programming content that both celebrates and cultivates diverse voices and Philadelphia Jazz arts and artists. The position in collaboration with the Associate General Manager for Content and Programming also supports the development of new jazz programs, programming, initiatives, and partnerships to improve listener service, generate revenue, and build the listening audience. The Assistant Program Manager will also host live and voice tracked programs.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
This position is assigned a hybrid work arrangement (on-campus and remote), the duration of this hybrid work arrangement is at the discretion of Temple University and the Department.
Required Education and Experience
* Bachelor's degree in broadcasting, communications, or directly related field
* Four (4) years of professional experience in public media programming
* Demonstrated multi-platform music curation and audience building experience
* Equivalent combination of training and experience related to the duties of the position.
Required Skills and Abilities
* Demonstrated knowledge of public media on-air and programming best practices
* Demonstrated experience in public media on-air fundraising
* Skilled at listener-focused public media best practices
* Demonstrated skill with digital broadcast production equipment and techniques
* Demonstrated excellence in written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills
* Strong knowledge of jazz periods, composers, major works, and artists
* Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines
* Demonstrated ability to successfully manage complex issue resolutions including in crisis response situations to ensure continuity of service and mitigation of risk and disruption to operations
* Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with various personalities
* Knowledge of Music Master, WideOrbit automation, Microsoft Office, G-Suite, and Windows
* Ability to work some weekend, evening and some overnight travel (as needed)
Preferred
* Jazz broadcast hosting and programming experience is preferred.
* A relaxed and engaging on-air presence
* Community engagement experience
* Philadelphia cultural arts industry knowledge
* Experience with Wide Orbit for radio automation
* Experience with Adobe Audition
* Experience with Music Master music scheduling software
