Position Summary:

IEM is seeking a meticulous Full Time - Software Tester to evaluate and test software products for government use, ensuring compliance with specifications and industry standards. Responsibilities include designing and executing test cases, identifying and documenting defects, conducting compatibility testing, and supporting user's post-implementation.

Primary Location:

  • Candidates can originate from anywhere in the United States
  • You will work remote from home when not deployed.
  • All remote work environments require the ability to maintain minimum Internet speeds of 25 Mbps upload and 3 Mbps download, as well as a ping rate of 100 ms or less during working hours, regardless of the type and number of devices using your Internet connection. You must also have account privileges and access to your Internet service provider account during working hours for the purposes of maintaining the Internet connection, if needed.

Travel Requirements:

  • This position may require travel to complete work assignments or attend meetings.

Essential Functions:

  • Evaluate and test software programs to verify compliance with specifications and industry standards.
  • Perform functional, regression, and compatibility testing on software products for government use.
  • Identify, analyze, and document defects, usability concerns, and inconsistencies in software functionality, outputs, and content.
  • Design, develop, and execute test cases, test scripts, and test data to support software validation.
  • Create and execute automated test scripts using testing software tools.
  • Respond to inquiries from users and technical support teams regarding software functions and operations.
  • Support process improvement initiatives by contributing to software quality assurance efforts.
  • Coordinate testing efforts with clients, end users, and third parties to ensure thorough evaluation.
  • Assist users in diagnosing and troubleshooting software-related issues post-implementation.
  • Conduct compatibility tests across multiple software programs, hardware configurations, operating systems, and network environments.
  • Monitor and analyze software performance after implementation to ensure operational efficiency and prevent recurring issues.
  • Document, track, and communicate test plans, test results, analyses, and unresolved issues.
  • Assist in establishing testing standards, procedures, and best practices for program design and validation.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field (Information Systems, MIS, Information Science) OR
  • 2-3 years of relevant experience in software testing, quality control, or quality assurance OR
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience with manual and automated software testing techniques.
  • Understanding of the software development lifecycle (SDLC) and testing methodologies.
  • Familiarity with software testing standards (e.g., SQA, IEEE, NASA, MilSpec).
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to create and execute test cases, scripts, and documentation.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a dynamic environment.
  • Willingness to travel (<10%) for implementation support and acceptance testing.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with scientific software applications.
  • Familiarity with test automation tools and scripting languages.
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity best practices related to software testing.
  • Understanding of government software development environments and regulatory requirements.
  • Ability to obtain a security clearance.
