THE POSITION

Are you an undergraduate or graduate student looking for a digitization internship? The State Library of Pennsylvania is seeking a dedicated intern to join our team of professionals. As an intern, you will have the opportunity to scan materials and load items into the library's digital access platform, as well as assist other services areas. By joining our department, you will learn the skills necessary to make your careers aspirations a reality!


DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a State Library Digitization Intern, you will be responsible for scanning materials using an overhead or book scanner, creating appropriate digital files and object-specific metadata, as well as loading items into the library's digital access platform. You will also have the opportunity to assist in other services areas of the State Library and may perform research related to their digitization activities. Additional responsibilities include:

  • Performing quality control on digital files
  • Ingesting metadata and digital assets in the Digital Asset Management System
  • Assisting the Rare Collections staff with repair and curation of fragile materials
  • Performing reference service to patrons of the State Library
  • Researching digitization issues as needed

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Internship, May 2025 through August 2025, approximately 15 to 20 hours per week
  • Work hours are 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, Tuesday - Thursday, with a 60-minute lunch.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Internship Requirements:

  • Currently enrolled in a college full-time (carrying 12 or more undergraduate credits, or 9 or more graduate credits).
  • Be in good academic standing (as defined by a GPA of 2.0 or higher)
  • Spring of 2025 graduates may also be considered for this program.

Additional Requirements:

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
