Duties/Responsibilities |
Uses 2 types patient identifiers to ensure accurate patient identification and sample labeling. Performs venous blood collection using various techniques: syringe, vacutainer, butterfly, capillary collection, blood culture collection. Successfully performs venipuncture without injury, missing only the most difficult patients. Evaluates patient anxiety prior to phlebotomy and offers coping techniques and instruction. Identify adverse reactions and acquires assistance. |

Handles phone calls in a helpful and courteous manner, expeditiously determines need, gives information or forwards caller to appropriate person. Greets patients in a helpful and courteous manner, organizes and directs patient/specimen flow. Verifies identification of patients and specimens by using 2 identifiers. Receives specimens or initiates specimen collection. Manages efficient, prompt distribution of specimens to the appropriate testing area using standard precautions. Reviews in-coming orders for appropriateness. Receives and accessions laboratory specimens using electronic systems with accuracy and efficiency. Communicates patient preparation needs and specimen requirements. Gives accurate and precise instructions to patients for specimen collection. Prioritizes tasks for technologists. Manages simultaneous demands effectively. |
