*This range reflects Carestream's good faith estimate to pay fairly as starting wage. Offers will be tailored within the range based on the selected candidate's experience, industry knowledge, technical and communication skills, and other factors that may prove relevant during the interview process, as well as geographic market differentials for the position.


Position Summary:

Carestream is seeking a Chemical Process Engineer at its manufacturing plant for film business located in White City, Oregon.

The person in this position will be responsible for providing engineering support to the chemical mixing and coating processes focusing on both existing and new products. Driving process improvement programs related to equipment performance, capital improvements, product quality, safety, and waste performance will be key initiatives.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Provide design and mechanical support to new product and process development activities including capital project implementation.


  • Provide technical support for experimental trials and production runs. Support operations for day-to-day reliability issues. Support waste reduction.
  • Coordinates activities with plant maintenance, systems, utilities, and outside contractors in the planning of equipment shutdowns, cleaning, training needs, total productive maintenance (TPM) efforts, etc.
  • Provide documentation on new processes or changes to existing processes via change management (CMR), software validation, standard operating procedures (SOP), corrective action guides (CAGS), etc.
  • Provide training for operations and support groups when implementing new processes and process improvements.
  • Support safe manufacturing practices; participate in PSM, MOC, and HAZOP reviews.
  • Utilizes process verification tools to monitor equipment performance and identify improvement opportunities.
  • Resolve process problems by identifying root cause and implementing process controls and/or procedure changes.

Required Skills & Education:

  • BS degree in engineering, a physical science, or a related discipline. Chemical Engineering preferred.
  • Minimum 2 years in a manufacturing environment.
  • Demonstrated use of project management tools to support the design, installation, startup, and qualification of process equipment.
  • Working knowledge of valves, pumps, filtration, flow meters, temperature controls, and mixers.
  • Working knowledge of various types of instrumentation: pressure sensors, temperature sensors, load cells, conductivity sensors, pH sensors, etc.

Desired Skills:

  • Manufacturing environment.
  • Working knowledge of various types of control systems: Modicon, ControLogix, Allen Bradley PLCs, etc.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently; highly self-motivated, self-directed and be results oriented.
  • Must have a desire to contribute and work in a team environment (lead and interact with operations, maintenance, engineering, and management)
  • Project management and leadership experience
  • Black Belt fundamentals. (Six Sigma, FMEA, Root Cause Analysis, DOE, SPC, Lean manufacturing principles).
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical and mechanical drawings, diagrams, charts, and equipment specifications. Ability to follow standard documentation process.
  • Experience with Process Safety Management (PSM) and key program elements such as PHA, management of change (MOC), pre-startup safety reviews (PSSR), incident investigation, mechanical integrity, and process safety information.
  • Working knowledge of web coating and drying processes including gravure, slot die, slide, curtain, mayer rod, reverse roll, etc.
  • Microsoft Office proficiency: Excel, Word, Power Point, MS Project

Work Environment:

Manufacturing offices, labs and production facilities.
