People Operations Specialist
Steptoe LLP, a Washington, DC-based Am Law 100 firm, is actively seeking a People Operations Specialist. The People Operations Specialist plays a critical role in the execution of day-to-day tasks and activities and supports overall departmental collaboration. This position requires strong interpersonal skills, the ability to assist with employee relations issues, and a solid understanding of department policies and employee life cycle. The Specialist will provide coordinate and support all initiatives associated with the employee life cycle to include but not limited to, performance management process, on and offboarding, status changes, process improvement and special programs and initiatives.
Essential Functions
  • Collaborate with People Operations stakeholders and other firm stakeholders to ensure seamless new hire integration into the firm.
  • Responsible for process flow, design, and execution of effective onboarding and offboarding.
  • Work closely with peers in various People Operations verticals to ensure cohesive service delivery.
  • Foster a collaborative environment to share best practices and streamline People Operations processes.
  • Work closely with the People Technology team to implement and improve reporting, systems and tools that enhance operational efficiency.
  • Assist in the rollout of innovative technologies aimed at improving the employee experience.
  • Manage compliance for the department, ensuring that all US offices adhere to local, state, and federal legislation.
  • Develop and manage Team communications, ensuring all internal department content on the intranet is up-to-date and accurate.
  • Serve as a point of contact for employees regarding general policy and benefits questions, ensuring clarity and compliance.
  • Support the roll-out and execution of the performance management process, including timelines, communications, and documentation.
  • Collaborate with People Partners to ensure performance reviews are conducted effectively and on schedule.
  • Triage initial employee complaints and/or concerns sent to People Operations.
  • Compiles and analyzes People data and metrics to support efficient operations. Includes report development and distribution.
  • Manage and modernize all People Operations record keeping and filing systems. Ownership of all employee records.
  • Invoice and expense report processing.
  • Other responsibilities and special projects as assigned include improving processes and procedures.
Non-Essential Functions
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Minimum of 2-3 years of related experience in Human Resources, Administration, or Office Management Support required.
  • Professional certification preferred.
  • Experience at an Am Law 100 / 200 law firm preferred.
Success Factors
  • Strong HR Fundamentals: Thorough understanding of employment laws, HR best practices, recruitment strategies, performance management systems, and employee benefits.
  • Analytical Skills: Ability to gather, analyze, and interpret HR data to identify trends and inform decision-making.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication to effectively interact with employees, managers, and HR Business Partners.
  • Attention to Detail: High level of accuracy and ability to manage complex administrative tasks.
  • Problem-solving Skills: Ability to identify issues, analyze root causes, and propose solutions to HR challenges.
  • Technical Proficiency: Familiarity with HR information systems and data management tools.
  • Experience with iManage, ViGlobal, and/or Dayforce a plus.
Work Environment
  • Non-smoking environment.
  • Must be available to work beyond regular business hours as needed.
  • Must be able to work under tight deadlines.
  • Must be able to work in Washington DC Office on a hybrid schedule.
The anticipated base salary for this position is $90,000 - $120,000. The actual base salary offered will be dependent upon the applicant's experience and qualifications, as well as other job-related factors, including but not limited to, relevant skills, education, certifications or other professional licenses held, and if applicable, geographic location.
