The Cancer Center of Kansas (CCK) is seeking a full-time, on-site MRI Technologist to join our team in our Wichita, KS offices. The typical work week is day shift Monday through Friday, with no major holidays, no on-call and no weekends.

What does this position entail?

Under general supervision, this role is responsible for the coordination and administration of all MRI radiologic exams; ensures technical quality and timely reporting of results. Assures compliance with appropriate regulatory agencies related to patient and employee safety. Supports and adheres to the US Oncology Compliance Program, including the Code of Ethics and Business Standards.


Responsibilities

The essential duties and responsibilities of this position are:

  • Performs MRI procedures as ordered achieving a high level of quality. Offers expertise to physicians regarding appropriateness of additional/modified studies, etc.
  • Ensures patients are properly screened for safety concerns and/or contraindications for MRI exams. Reports concerns to the supervising physician.
  • Monitor patient's wellbeing during exams; recognizes patient discomfort or medical problems and take appropriate action. Provide patient the squeeze ball (panic ball), to ensure they have complete communications with you during their exam.
  • Guide patients through this sometimes difficult process by talking them through the steps and answering their questions and concerns regarding exam procedures and process.
  • Shall respect a patient's right to refuse the examination.
  • Respond to provider questions and needs regarding patients.
  • Completes all paperwork necessary to ensure timely delivery of MRI services.
  • Logs procedures completed. Processes routine paperwork.
  • Conducts daily quality control measures to monitor machine performance. Reports all malfunctions and/or need for adjustments to the supervisor, GE field engineer, and/or physicist. Arranges preventive maintenance as recommended by vendor. Follows prescribed safety standards in operating equipment.
  • Ensure that all calculations and or services that require outside vendors are scheduled and performed according to the required frequency.
  • Operate imaging equipment to perform requested MRI procedures. Inspect results to determine if additional information is required.
  • Maintain a clean work area at all times and adequately stock supplies.
  • Administer contrast per protocol and in a safe and effective manner, record details of each administration. Perform appropriate notification process when misadministration occurs.
  • Control access to restricted areas by persons not required to be present in order to perform the procedure.
  • Ensure proper preventive and corrective maintenance for the MRI scanning unit. Report any patient's need of medical attention. Findings from emergency response shall be immediately reported 911 and the MR Imaging facility and or authorized representative.
  • Must assist in patient movement to and from the wheel chair,, as needed.
  • Shall assure that all MRI scans are performed in accordance with established protocols and only upon the order of a person who is lawfully authorized to diagnose, treat, and prescribe. Any ambiguous procedures or requisitions will be referred to the director of the MRI facility.
  • Teach MRI skillsets, practices and share MRI related knowledge to fellow technologist and personnel.
  • Must perform any cleaning duties necessary within the MRI work area to include within the MRI chambers and related scanner equipment to maintain infection control policies and procedures.
  • Perform data entry and all clerical duties related to exam/image processing, charting, paperwork preparation and other daily activities.
  • Performs a variety of MRI/MRA scans of the body in accordance with department protocols and supervising radiologist directions.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of Adheres to confidentiality, state, federal, and HIPPA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) laws and guidelines with regards to patient's records and information.
  • Establish and maintain good working relationships with managers and staff members across departments.
  • Attends required, applicable meetings.
  • Remains current on all compliance requirements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate for the position will have the following qualifications:

Education/Training:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Associated degree in Radiology Technology from an accredited school.
  • Minimum one (1) year experience as an MRI Technologist, preferred.
  • Must have a certified MRI Technologist assist with all exams until employee has passed their certification in MRI.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

  • Must always be current with certifications.
  • Certification as a registered radiology technologist (ARRT) required.
  • Current CPR certification required.
  • Certification in MRI required.

Physical Demands:

Physical demands of this job typically require full range of body motion including manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination for operation and repair of all department equipment. Lifts and carries items weighing up to 50 pounds. Lifts and pushes patients in wheelchairs/stretchers weighing up to 300 pounds and places in appropriate positions for operation of equipment. Requires ability to reach above should height. Requires sitting/standing for extensive periods of time. Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.
