Job Summary

Summary

Directs the daily operations of a large summer day camp program.

Essential Duties:

  • Develop, schedule and coordinate day camp activities.
  • Schedule, supervise, lead and evaluate staff.
  • Institute and enforce camp rules and discipline/reward procedures for participants and staff.
  • Ensure participant welfare during all activities, trips and transportation.
  • Ensure the proper handling of first aid and emergency situations.

Peripheral Duties:

  • Communicate with parents regarding participants' progress and special needs.

Peter Kirk Camp - The City of Kirkland's Peter Kirk Camp program is located at the Peter Kirk Community Center, 352 Kirkland Ave.

Junior Camp- The City of Kirkland's Junior Camp program is located at the North Kirkland Community Center, 12421 103rd Ave NE.

Hours of Work:

The Peter Kirk Community Center After School camp operates Monday through Friday during the school year and will follow the Lake Washington School District Calendar.

Current program hours:

Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday - 2:45 PM - 6:00 PM (3.25 hours each day)

Wednesday - 1:30 PM - 6:00 PM (4.5 hours)


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Good communication skills are required.
  • Ability to interact courteously with the public.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Demonstrated good judgement in problem solving and responding to customer needs.
  • Demonstrates sports, games and craft activities to staff and participants. Accompany children on walks and public transit to outings. Administer First Aid/CPR if needed. Monitor participants by watching and listening. Shop for and deliver supplies to program sites.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Applicant must possess or be able to obtain First Aid/CPR certification prior to position start date.
  • Applicant must successfully complete a thorough national background check as required by the Child/Adult Abuse Information Act.
  • Applicant must be at least 18 years or older at time of application.
  • Must have one year experience with children in a camp like setting.

Preferred Qualifications

  • At least 1-year of experience supervisory experience.

Working Conditions & Physical Activities:

Performs work in indoor and outdoor settings including community center facilities, parks, playgrounds, beaches, pool, and commercial recreation sites. Exposure to extended periods of direct sunlight and/or cool and damp weather is possible.
