City of Hope will be opening our second academic hospital on the Irvine Campus - the only specialty cancer hospital in the area - completing the continuum of care in Orange County and we are seeking a Nurse Manager to ensure efficient operations for our ICU unit. The Nurse Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the ICU, ensuring high quality of care for critically ill patients within the unit on a 7-day/week, 24-hour basis in collaboration with the Director, Nursing. This role involves responsibility for managing nursing staff and maintaining compliance with healthcare regulations and standards. This position involves collaborating with interdisciplinary teams, optimizing patient care delivery, and fostering a culture of safety and excellence across the enterprise to achieve excellent patient outcomes and a workplace of choice. As a successful candidate, you will:
- Lead and manage a team of registered nurses, charge nurses, and other healthcare staff within critical care.
- Ensure adequate staffing levels, manage scheduling, and support nursing staff in the delivery of care. Work closely with human resources to recruit and retain skilled nurses.
- Oversees daily operations of the Evaluation Treatment Care Unit, ensuring efficient patient flow and effective use of resources.
- Promote a positive work environment that encourages collaboration, professional growth, and staff engagement.
- Oversee the delivery of high-quality, evidence-based care to critically ill patients, including those requiring intensive monitoring, mechanical ventilation, or advanced therapeutic interventions.
- Coordinate and facilitate patient care by working closely with physicians, respiratory therapists, physical therapists, and other healthcare team members.
- Monitor clinical indicators, such as infection rates, patient satisfaction, and mortality rates, to identify areas for improvement.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory bodies and accreditation organizations such as The Joint Commission (TJC), Centers for Medicare & Medicaid services (CMS), and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).
- Conduct performance evaluations, provide coaching, and ensure staff development and training.
- Advocate for patients and families by providing education on treatments, potential side effects, and disease management.
- Ensure compliance with hospital policies and regulations, including patient safety and infection control.
- Participate in budget planning and financial management, ensuring cost-effective care delivery while maintaining quality standards.
- Ensure proper inventory management, ordering of medical supplies, and equipment maintenance.
- Facilitate regular team meetings to discuss patient care issues, staff concerns, and department goals.
- Maintain clear and effective communication with patients, families, and other departments.
- Implement evidence-based practices, guidelines, and protocols to enhance patient outcomes.
- Support staff in maintaining certifications and continuing education to promote professional development.
Qualifications
Your qualifications should include:
- Bachelor's degree or master's degree in nursing is required.
- 3 years of experience in an area of expertise relevant to the department with demonstrated progressive leadership growth. (outpatient infusion or inpatient oncology unit)
- Current California Registered Nurse license
- Current BLS from the American Heart Association
- Current ACLS from the American Heart Association
- Relevant experience with oncology, chemotherapy administration background
- ONS Chemotherapy Immunotherapy certification or obtained within 6 months of hire.
- National Certification (must be obtained within 12 months of hire or transfer) OCN or BMTCN preferred.
