Essential Job Duties
The Zeis Textiles Extension ( ZTE) unit is seeking full-time, temporary assistance in their weaving lab to thread (i.e., sley) the bookmark machine. ZTE would like to hire 2 individuals for approximately 6 weeks to perform a weaving related task known as "sleying a reed." The 2 individuals hired will work as a team on this project - one individual will select the correct number of fine yarns to pass to the second individual, who will use a reed hook to pull the fine yarns through a very small dent (roughly 0.5 mm wide). The individuals may alternate between who is selecting the yarns and who is threading the hook, however precision is absolutely paramount to ensure the machine is able to operate successfully. Individuals would be trained on the tasks, and staff members would be on hand if the individuals have questions or any issues arise during the work.

  • The ability to patiently and accurately complete repetitive tasks using intricate materials and tools for the duration of the workday.
  • This position will require the individuals to frequently: grasp, push, and pull threads; reach at or above five feet from the floor for extended periods (a stool or similar support may be used to accomplish this task); stand, bend, and squat; and, distinguish between colors and intricate threads.

  • Experience in a similar manufacturing work environment would be highly beneficial.
