CLA is currently seeking a Communications Associate to join our talented Communications team. This role supports the Communications team by drafting compelling written communications, as well as proofreading and revising the content of written communication materials in preparation for final publication. This role manages CLA's internal newsletters and helps with intranet updates. They may specialize in communications content for either the external communications or internal communications teams.

This role reports to the Managing Director of Public Relations and Communications and regularly interacts with CLA family members across a variety of functions. May also interact with external sources, such as journalists, job seekers, campus event organizers, professional association administrators, and regulatory agencies.

How you'll create opportunities in this Communications Associate role:

  • Communication Strategy: Supports the development and execution of an effective and cohesive communications strategy, whether geared toward internal CLA family members or to the external marketplace and social media audiences. Continually seeks to evaluate and improve the effectiveness of internal or external communications strategy and methods.
  • Written Communication: Helps draft specific communications action plans, timelines, and defined deliverables that support the communication of messages that shape and promote CLA culture, drive engagement, educate, and deliver results. Proofreads copy to detect and correct spelling, punctuation, mathematical, and syntax errors and ensures writing complies to AP and CLA style guides. Communicates and collaborates with reviewers, authors, SMEs, and project directors to ensure the final written copy conveys accurate messaging and represents CLA culture. Meets deadlines established for timely publication. May assist in evaluation and implementation of communications-related tools or infrastructures.
  • Social Media: Contributes to the execution of a comprehensive social media strategy to engage CLA's key audiences and stakeholders. Develops connections across CLA's marketing and communications functions to coordinate overall strategies and drive stronger results across all functions. Develops and assist with social media campaigns and plans alongside CLA leaders and SMEs.
  • Collaboration: Collaborates and supports the work of internal teams to ensure cohesive and uniform messaging across all functions of the firm. Connects with internal marketing, human resources, learning and development, and video content teams to implement and apply overall communication strategy for the firm.

What you will need:

  • No experience required.
  • Experience in writing or editing preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree required (combination of education, training and experience may be accepted as a degree equivalent)
  • Degree field of English or journalism is preferred
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Teams, etc.)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Deep understanding of AP Style of English
  • Ability to use detailed style guides and create and maintain stylesheets
  • Ability to take complex issues and content and write for a firmwide level

Compensation Strategy

Our approach to compensation emphasizes collaboration and career growth. We pay competitive wages and view compensation as an investment in our people. Factors such as geography, experience, education, skills, and knowledge may impact position of pay within the range. These same factors may cause starting pay to be below or above the posted range. The Minnesota posting range for this role is $52,800 - $92,000
