JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The Physical Security Office, in University Police and Public Safety, is seeking an Access and Security Specialist to serve on our User Engagement Team. We are in search of candidates with experience in the administration of electronic access control, video surveillance, life safety alarms, and keys who can provide service to University personnel managing access to their respective facilities. The primary role is to ensure that hundreds of University 'Access Coordinators' are in compliance with all policies and procedures and security best practices relating to the security management of their facilities.

Responsibilities include:

  • Respond to security access administration requests to include but not limited to credential access, new system clearance requests, unlock/lock schedules, door groups, and account provisioning and de-provisioning
  • Test, assign, approve, and remove user permissions for access control, video surveillance, and access coordinators
  • Troubleshoot card and door security issues; coordinate with field technician dispatched to investigate hardware issues
  • Administer quality assurance processes across all systems
  • Retrieve, document, and destroy returned and obsolete keys; remove from specific inventories
  • Facilitate annual audit program and perform periodic spot audits to ensure adherence to policies and procedures - card access, system users, keys, access coordinators
  • Advise on the management of departmental keys and ensure that keys are administered and stored per policy
  • Respond to inquiries such as lost and found keys and re-core projects; prepare security risk assessments and incident reports for unaccounted for keys
  • Review key request work orders for master, grandmaster, sub-master, and special keys; update key schematics
  • Respond to inquiries regarding video surveillance data requests; provide approved footage for users per vetted requests and document dissemination
  • Develop and deliver training regarding access policies, procedures, security design, and best practices
  • Coordinate and contribute to work relating to system uniformity - naming and functionality
  • Research, assess, and make recommendations and participate in the development of new and current policies and protocols

This position will be filled at the Intermediate Professional or Advanced Professional level depending on the successful candidate's education and experience. The Intermediate level minimally requires an Associate's Degree and two years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Additional education and/or experience is required for higher level position.

An Advanced Professional level candidate will have strong proficiency and understanding of physical security systems, including access control, alarm monitoring, video surveillance, and mechanical keys. The candidate will be responsible for day-to-day security operations, troubleshooting advanced issues, and ensuring consistent end user support. It is essential to have proven ability to perform in high pressure and emergency situations effectively and efficiently. The role demands the ability to apply specialized knowledge and skills to resolve complex and or varied problems with minimal supervision.

This position will report to the Physical Security User Engagement Manager.

This position offers a flexible work arrangement that combines remote and on-campus work. Questions related to flexible work should be directed to the hiring manager during the interview process.

A fingerprint background check will be required to work within the Police facility in addition to standard background checks.

The salary range for this position, including all possible grades is:

$42,100.00 - $74,000.00
