Instructional and Information Systems (
IIS) provides core information technology support for public health faculty, staff and students. We collaborate with technology partners inside the school and across campus to ensure that our School is getting the best from technology. |
Position Summary |
The Videographer/Multimedia Specialist will play a crucial role in enhancing the quality of online learning for the
UNC Gillings School of Global Public Health. The ideal candidate will work closely with faculty, instructional designers, and the Communications & Marketing office to produce high-quality video content that supports student learning and engagement as well as the promotion of the school. The primary purpose of this position is to provide video and audio recordings with responsibility for the planning, recording, editing, and production of video lectures and other multimedia content for online courses of Gillings faculty from the school's single-camera studio recording space. Duties will also be responsible for guided service recordings to include promos; school-wide messages; and training videos for Gilling's Communications & Marketing office and other Gilling's stakeholders. Duties and responsibilities to include overall management, scheduling and maintenance of the recording space; camera operation; audio; graphics; lighting; and assist classroom media specialist (tier II), and the Instructional Media Services associate director. Will also assist the IT project operations manager (tier
III) to provide tier I operational services for backend equipment in technical operation room connected the facility and its equipment.
The Videographer/Multimedia Specialist will work with faculty and instructional designers to create and develop creative digital solutions for online and technology-enhanced course content. The position will also expand Gillings' multimedia presence throughout our MPH@UNC curriculum and explore innovative approaches to transform content delivery while partnering with faculty to constantly evolve and enhance how Gillings deliver digital content to improve learning. By managing the day-to-day activities and video production of the recording space facility, the position will explore the impact of emerging technologies through video and multimedia solutions. Position may be eligible for hybrid schedule. |
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements |
Associate's degree in Computer Information Technology, computer Technology Integration, Networking Technology, or related area and one year of experience in the information technology field related to the position's role; or
- Bachelor's degree from an appropriately accredited institution and one year experience in the information technology field related to the position's role; or
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, math or engineering or related technical degree from an appropriately accredited institution; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Journey level required an additional one year of experience
- Advanced level required an additional two years of experience. |
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience |
* Strong understanding of audio and video production techniques in studio or on-location environments, including lighting, camera operation, and sound recording.
* Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team environment.
* Time management and strong organizational skills are required to manage multiple projects and deliver results under prescribed deadlines.
* Self-directed/self-starter who can independently identify technical or training needs, or marketing/ communications opportunities and take initiative to provide solutions.
* Strong interpersonal and customer service skills. Active listener who responds appropriately in a timely manner.
* Experience with basic computer Windows and Mac OS and applications such as Microsoft Office and Teams. |
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience |
* Previous experience in video production, video editing, or related roles
* Knowledge and experience programming and operating production switcher and router, such as Ross Video Ultrix
* Experience troubleshooting problems with studio production equipment and identify solutions.
* Understanding of audio workflow in a network audio based environment, such as Dante. Ability to adjust and change audio flows depending on recording needs. Certification preferred.
* Understanding of AV control systems such as
AMX, Extron or Crestron. Ability to troubleshoot control related issues and provide solutions. Certification preferred.
* Understanding of studio lighting equipment and operation in a
DMX or ArtNet environment
* Experience with video streaming and software production tools such as
OBS.
* Experience in editing software such as DaVinci, Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, or similar tools. |
