Overview The Technical Associate will be responsible for programming, tuning, testing, commissioning, and providing field training for steam equipment and related hardware. This role ensures the safe, timely, efficient, and reliable installation, maintenance, repair, removal, replacement, testing, and inspection of the steam system. All tasks will be performed in accordance with operating procedures, engineering plans, specifications, and safety/environmental guidelines.
Responsibilities
Core Responsibilities
- Plan, implement, and coordinate Steam Operations testing and training programs in accordance with applicable procedures and specifications without compromising safety or system integrity and reliability.
- Perform boiler and combustion turbine tuning and testing on gas and fuel oil.
- Perform critical component tuning and testing.
- Perform burner inspections.
- Provide boiler, combustion turbine and auxiliary support and technical guidance.
- Work on new simulator design, commissioning, and testing.
- Maintain the operability and Functionality of the Training Simulators.
- Develop, maintain, and update training materials.
- Provide coordination and oversight of EDS and PI.
- Review steam plant analytics and make recommendations for plant improvements.
- Support Capital Projects and the development of Project Information Packages.
- Develop logic for control systems, test on high fidelity or tie back simulators, develop travelers and implement.
- Perform other related tasks and assignments as required.
- Provide fleet standardization for Emmerson based DCS Controls at each Plant.
- Travel to each steam plant to provide the support needed for all core responsibilities.
Qualifications
Required Education/Experience
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering and 1 year of technical experience and knowledge of the installation, operation, maintenance, repair, removal, replacement, testing and inspection of steam/power system.
Relevant Work Experience
- Ability to demonstrate computer proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and other related company systems, required.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to effectively work with all levels of management and union personnel, vendors, and contractor, required.
- Ability to direct the activities of a large group in an effective and harmonious manner, required.
- Ability to balance priorities, handle multiple assignments and take decisive action, required.

Physical Demands
- Ability to respond to system emergencies
- Able to work in all weather conditions, i.e. excessive heat and/or cold
- Perform extended driving through heavy traffic and severe off-road conditions
- Ability to carry tools and materials when climbing ladders and scaffolds, and entering confined spaces
- Work in, under, and on top of all types of company vehicles and/or equipment
- Ability to work in adverse conditions that include, noise, confined spaces, and high elevations
- Ability to climb ladders and stairs
- Ability to work on elevated platforms, scaffolds, catwalks, roofs, and/or other equipment
- Perform work in underground vaults through manholes
- Ability to work in inclement weather and adverse conditions (i.e., excessive heat, cold, noise, confined spaces)
- Ability to work with, and in, the vicinity of high voltage and/or other high-energy systems
- Ability to be approved to wear and use either a full or half-face respirator, without facial hair or other conditions that may interfere with the seal, in accordance with OSHA regulations
- Ability to climb in and out of manholes and excavations
- Stand, walk, and climb ladders and stairs for the duration of the workday
- Ability to use hand tools and operate heavy machinery, i.e. jackhammers
- Unload materials from delivery vehicles and deliver equipment and materials to various operating facilities
- Ability to travel to company locations to work on storm restoration and heat contingencies
- Possess the capacity to free climb ladders up to 475 feet in height
- Use hand-eye coordination to adjust controls on equipment
- Wear necessary Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), i.e. fire-retardant clothing and safety harnesses
- Work rotating shifts, including nights, midnights, weekends, and holidays
- Use equipment with a maximum weight rating of 375lbs when wearing and/or carrying 25lbs of clothing and equipment
Additional Physical Demands
- Must be able to respond to Company emergencies by performing a System Emergency Assignment to restore service to our customers.
- Must be able to work in field locations. (all Steam Generation Stations)
