Essential Job Duties
This role is critical to improving the efficiency and effectiveness of space management at the Phytotron facility, supporting research operations with reliable, data-driven tools.

Duties Include:
Application Development & Maintenance

  • Design, develop, and maintain a web-based space management application for the Phytotron facility
  • Implement features to track, allocate, and manage research space within controlled environment chambers.
  • Ensure the application integrates seamlessly with existing facility management tools.


Database Management

  • Design and maintain a database to store space use data, chamber assignments, and research schedules.
  • Optimize queries for efficient data retrieval and reporting.
  • Implement data validation and integrity checks to ensure accurate record-keeping.

User Interface & Experience

  • Develop a user-friendly, intuitive interface for researchers and facility staff.
  • Implement role-based access controls to ensure appropriate permissions for different users.
  • Provide interactive visualizations for chamber occupancy, scheduling, and availability.

System Integration & Automation

  • Integrate the application with existing Phytotron infrastructure, including environmental monitoring systems and scheduling tools.
  • Automate reporting and notifications for space availability, experiment timelines, and maintenance schedules.
  • Develop APIs for data exchange with other research and facility management applications.

Security & Performance Optimization

  • Implement best practices for application security, including user authentication and data protection.
  • Optimize application performance for handling large datasets and concurrent users.
  • Ensure compliance with institutional IT security policies.

Support & Documentation

  • Provide technical support for facility staff and researchers using the application.
  • Create user manuals, FAQs, and training materials for system users.
  • Maintain thorough documentation for the application's code, database structure, and workflows.

Continuous Improvement & Innovation

  • Gather feedback from users and stakeholders to improve functionality and usability.
  • Stay up to date with emerging technologies and best practices in facility management software.
  • Implement enhancements to improve efficiency and adaptability of the system.
