The Department of Psychiatry & Human Behavior at UCI School of Medicine seeks to advance understanding, prevention and treatment of psychiatric conditions affecting children, adolescents and adults through education, training, research and clinical care.


Your Role on the Team

The Principal Admit Worker (PAW) is the first contact to our patients when they come in the door, so their individual professionalism, friendly and accommodating personality is essential to the success of the Patient Experience. The PAW provides customer service to all ages of patients who seek and obtain medical services. The candidate is instrumental in facilitating patient flow in the clinic. The PAW works with multiple disciplines to manage the day to day functions. HIPAA is a primary concern of all staff, and must be respected and is expected to be followed. Using multiple UC Irvine electronic and paper registration systems the candidate greets patients, determines insurance eligibility, schedules, reschedules, cancels and confirms appointments, follow through on messages to MDs and back to patient when directed. The candidate is responsible for insurance co-pay and deductible, as well as self-pay collections. They must have proven cash handling skills with accurate daily reconciliation. They apply appropriate credit to accounts, review patient issues with billing coordinator and supervisor when necessary. The PAW will obtain insurance authorizations and certifications for treatment or equipment.


What It Takes to be Successful

Required:

  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Consistently presents a professional demeanor.
  • Demonstrates cash handling and daily reconciliations skills.
  • Experience registering patients and filing.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of healthcare insurance.
  • Must demonstrate positive oral and written communication skills.
  • Experience in computer data entry and inquiry.
  • Experience in scheduling and confirming patient appointments.
  • Experience/knowledge in obtaining insurance authorizations.
  • Must possess the skill, knowledge, and ability essential to the successful performance of assigned duties.
  • Ability to maintain a work pace appropriate to the workload.
  • Experience in an outpatient setting Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Experience in a hospital in-patient or outpatient medical office setting.

Preferred:

  • Knowledge of University and medical center organizations, policies, procedures and forms.
  • Experience with EPIC for EHR.

Special Conditions:

  • Flexibility to work variable shifts, including weekends or holidays.
