Responsible for maintaining laboratory equipment, organizing and preparing samples, conducting experiments, and recording and analyzing data.

Essential Functions:
- Perform laboratory experiments following established protocols and procedures.
- Prepare and handle samples, reagents, and solutions, ensuring accuracy and adherence to safety guidelines.
- Operate and maintain laboratory equipment and instruments, conducting routine calibration and troubleshooting as needed.
- Record experimental data accurately and maintain organized records of procedures, protocols, and results.
- Compile and analyze data using appropriate statistical and analytical methods.
- Assist in data interpretation and presentation, contributing to research findings and reports.

Education:

BA or BS in a biological/physical science required.

Experience:
Prior experience with mouse work strongly preferred.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Good organizational skills, detail oriented
  • Sound degree of computer literacy
  • Ability to perform a variety of routine tests and prioritize work
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to demonstrate professionalism
  • We are seeking stability for at least 2 years (longer preferred)


Working under the general supervision of the Principal Investigator, and in accordance with established hospital policies and procedures, the Research Lab Tech I conducts a variety of routine experiments in mice where methodologies are clearly established. The Research Lab Tech I calculates, transcribes, and analyzes data using basic statistics and assists with mouse colony maintenance.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Participates in mouse colony maintenance, including breeding mice, collecting samples for genotyping, and organizing genotyping results. Updates mouse database regularly.
  • Under general supervision, performs a variety of routine assays including biochemical and pathological analysis of mouse brain.
  • Assists with mouse experimentation including performing injections and assisting with behavioral testing.
  • Records data, summarizes, and analyzes results using basic statistics.
  • Orders and maintains supply inventory in accordance with departmental procedures.
  • Participates in lab safety oversight and chemical inventory.
  • Discusses progress of work regularly with supervisor.
  • All other duties, as assigned.

Working Conditions:

Requires working with mice. No heavy lifting or long-term standing.
