Summary
We seek a senior technician to play a key role in stem cell research and assay development at the Khurana Lab within the Ann Romney Center for Neurologic Disease, Neurology department, Brigham and Women's Hospital. The laboratory applies cutting edge stem cell technologies, genome editing and imaging to study the problem of protein misfolding and genetic variance susceptibility in neurodegenerative disease.
The successful candidate will have a track record of working independently but also in a coordinate matter with several members of a research team. They must have good communication and interpersonal skills and be able to perform multiple detail-oriented tasks including molecular biology, stem cell culture and differentiation approaches; perform non-routine, highly specialized experimental procedures; participate in the design and modification of research protocols; compose and may present sections of research reports and manuscripts; perform advanced data analysis using advanced statistical techniques. Successful candidate will also take assist at the lab managerial tasks in collaboration with a senior researcher/lab manager. The responsibilities will include lab equipment oversight, reagent generation and oversight, quality assurance programs, ordering laboratory supplies, training and co-supervision of junior technicians and students.
Responsible for work related to epidemiological studies and other population-based research not related to clinical trials or laboratory. Works more independently with input into study design, statistical analysis and reporting

Essential Functions
- Responsible for data collection, management, manipulation, analysis and reporting.
- Plans, performs and designs statistical analyses.
- Independently judges suitability of study subjects.
- Contributes to writing manuscripts.
- Trains and orients new staff.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
- Independently performs non-routine, highly specialized experimental procedures, including advanced stem cell culture, genome editing and microscopy.
- Participates in the design and modification of research protocols.
- Develops research methodologies within the parameters of experimental protocols and research objectives.
- Composes and may present sections of research reports and manuscripts.
- Performs advanced data analysis using advanced statistical techniques.
- Responsible for the oversight and coordination of all lab activities, including quality assurance. Responsible for the oversight and coordination of the scheduling of all procedures.
- Responsible for troubleshooting problems and instructing others in highly specialized techniques.
- If entry level research staff is present, will collaborate with PI in supervising staff in the lab, including hiring, firing, evaluation and discipline.
- In collaboration with PI, participates in budget and grant development and preparation.
- Responsible for the cell line repository.
- Responsible for orienting and training new staff members.
- Responsible for troubleshooting problems and instructing others in highly specialized techniques.
- Will collaborate with senior postdoctoral fellows in supervising technical staff in the lab.
- All other duties, as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Responsible for orienting and co-supervising technical staff and incoming students and junior postdoctoral fellows.

Education
Bachelor's Degree Science required

3-5 years of directly related progressively more responsible experience

Human stem cell culture experience preferred.
Some lab organization experience desirable.

- Proficiency in basic laboratory techniques is essential, including molecular biology (PCR, cloning), biochemistry (Western blot, ELISA) and basic tissue culture.
- Proficiency in advanced techniques is desirable, including pluripotent stem cell culture and genome editing.
- Proficiency in microscopy and high content imaging is desirable.
- Sound analytical and organizational skills.
- Demonstrated ability to analyze data statistically and to logically present it.
- Must have a broad knowledge of scientific principles, biological structures, and laboratory techniques.
- Must possess the ability to work independently and display initiative to introduce innovations to research study.
- Must have sound interpersonal skills and the ability to supervise others.
- Requires good oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to prioritize tasks
