The Technical Service & Development Specialist, CASE is key to support business maintenance & growth by providing technical service to our customers and developing new business opportunities & products to new & existing customers to serve their needs with Trinseo Latex Binders. This individual will ideally be able to reside in Midland, MI for the first 3 months of the role; going into the lab 3-5 days per week to receive training and learn Trinseo's processes and equipment. Trinseo would provide temporary housing and the ability to travel back to residence on weekends during this time. If candidate is unable to reside in Midland, MI for the first 3 months, we can evaluate an alternative initial training plan for the individual to gather necessary training in the Midland, MI lab on a case-by-case basis. After this initial period, the candidate would be expected to travel to Midland, MI for 1 week per month until our new lab in Exton, PA is fully operational. Our new Exton, PA lab is expected to be fully operational in Q1 - Q2 2026.
Responsibilities
Product/Application Development & Engineering
Work with central R&D, the application laboratory, consultants, and/or external laboratories to rapidly develop new product solutions that meet the needs of the local market applications.
- Translate customer requirements and application needs into direct product solutions in target Construction market and the related applications.
- Implement new products at customers in close cooperation with other functions (sales, product research, process research, and manufacturing).
- Identify gaps in our application know how and identify/develop tools (capabilities, materials, test procedures, etc.) and technology required to close those gaps.
- Work closely with technician team to optimize resource use against opportunity size and timing.
- Leads technical projects from Platform projects to product tweaks to formulation design and application programs
- Plans technical perspective for projects, prepares charters, defines critical issue to ensure efficient execution and on target implementation (time, value, capex)
- Prepares both, condensed/day-to-day as well as scientific reports (e.g. CRIs) in a professional manner
- Reports observations and thoughts proactively to contribute to product/application development success
- Subject matter expert (SME) in all test methods and instruments used in the CASE Value Center, primary focus being in Construction applications
- Defines requirements and leads implementation of new testing capabilities
- Explores market for external laboratory services that further enhances CASE's application development capabilities. Key liaison to those external labs, coordinates respective testing programs
- Work with account team to build close customer relationships and enhance Trinseo's technical leadership image.
- Understand and proactively analyze customer's product and service needs.
- Recognize, anticipate, and solve customer problems by working collaboratively
- Use extensive knowledge of customers needs and our product offerings to form account strategy: identify, assess and prioritize value growth and operational excellence initiatives
- Support customer in grade development and/or process improvements.
- Identify new market opportunities and support existing business with technical expertise.
- Direct customer contact point for targeted growth customers and applications - new customers as well as selected new applications at existing customers
- Translates customer requirements and application needs into cost-effective product solutions
- Designs, leads and analyzes laboratory studies to develop customized product solutions for Construction applications
- Increase margins by differentiating our product offering through quality and total cost
- Develop recognized expertise in application and product areas
Technology Leadership
- Develops and builds relationships with external customers, suppliers, influencers, and decision makers through regular contacts and industry association activity. Develops market recognized technical skills.
- Attends technical conferences and exhibitions and represents Trinseo CASE as industry expert
- Significant contributor to building CASE brand awareness and reputation in the CASE market industries
- Drives EBIT by developing and qualifying products for new customers or new applications
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Polymer, Chemical Engineering or related field
- 5+ years of experience within a similar technical service, engineering or development position within polymers or latex
- Construction / CASE industry experience strongly preferred
- Experience with Latex Modified Concrete (LMC) applications, Coating, Paints, Construction, Fiber Bonding is preferred
- Knowledge of polymer dispersions and the use of polymer dispersions in construction applications, gained through a university level education and practical experience
- Mobile and able to travel approximately up to 25% of the time, essentially within the United States
