We are seeking a Lab Planner with experience in the Science and Technology industry to join our San Diego, CA office. As part of the Architecture and Interiors Discipline, you will take a lead role with clients in all phases of project planning and programming. This position initiates the project development for project specific solutions that advance the program and planning efforts utilizing practice specific expertise. You will work independently supervising staff for medium to large scale projects with many complexities and undefined objectives. Your position will coordinate with the architecture and engineering teams to develop design solutions that meet the client's objectives and the firm's goals for design excellence, financial viability and quality service. You will develop projects and concepts that advance the firms position in the marketplace and may explore new subjects, scope, concepts and methods. Essential Functions
- Ensure the client's program and project objectives are addressed during the initial concept and early design phases of work.
- Supervise teams of professional and technical support personnel in project situations.
- Develop innovative solutions to project specific challenges that advance the firm within the industry.
- Provide expertise support to project team members.
- Research state of the art innovative concepts in planning and design.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as required or requested.
- Assist market segment leaders and the marketing department in the preparation of design documents and presentations material.
- Develop practice-based marketing material for project pursuits.
- Participate in business development and the marketing of clients under the direction of the market segment leader through setting of strategy, sales presentations, seminars at professional associations and publishing of articles.
- Programming
- Work with market segment leaders and project designers to generate programmatic relationships that foster building configurations of great utility and design innovation.
- Develop program documents and diagrams that address and support the client's objectives.
- Schematic Design and Design Development
- Work with the project manager and the project designer in creating buildings which serve the client's needs and responds to their desired image, space and aesthetic.
- Write clear and concise narrative reports describing:
- Functional use and adjacencies
- Operational goals and objectives
- Expansion capabilities
- Design and document innovative programmatic solutions specific to each client, consistent with the firm and market standards.
- Construction Documents
- Assist the project team with practice specific support that govern the technical development of the project.
- Continue work with the client to ensure the practice specific requirements are addressed.
- Construction Administration
- Help carry the practice specific requirements through CA by providing support on an as needed basis to help the CA team.
- Mentor architects, technicians, and interns
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Architecture or Interior Design
- Registered Professional
- 10+ years' relevant and direct experience in the planning and programming of facilities inclusive of new construction and renovation
- Proven superior graphic design, building design and conceptualization
- Hand drawing and sketching ability
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Suite and 3ds Modeling programs
