Your Role on the Team

Highly motivated individuals interested in cardiovascular research are invited to apply for the position of Lab Assistant II in the laboratory of Professor Asuka Eguchi. Under direct supervision of the Principal Investigator, responsibilities will revolve around projects that address genetic forms of heart failure. Responsibilities include the following: culture and maintenance of human induced pluripotent stem cells, differentiation to cardiomyocytes, production of lentivirus, immunocytochemistry, molecular experiments (e.g. molecular cloning, western blots, PCR, and luciferase assays), microscopy, data analysis using ImageJ and MATLAB, preparation of stock solutions, and maintenance of inventory. Proficiency in detailed record keeping, handling laboratory equipment, and following protocols is required. This role is ideal for collaborative individuals who thrive in an environment of scientific discovery. Participation in group meetings to discuss experimental design and data interpretation is desired. Effective verbal and written communication in English is necessary, and basic to advanced computer literacy is preferred.

Required:

  • Maintenance of human induced pluripotent stem cells
  • Differentiation to cardiomyocytes
  • Production of lentivirus
  • Immunocytochemistry
  • Molecular cloning
  • Luciferase assay
  • A minimum of 1 year of experience in a research laboratory

Preferred:

  • Microscopy
  • Proficiency in ImageJ and MATLAB
  • Ability to work with people from diverse cultures
  • Organizational skills and detailed record keeping skills

Special Conditions:

  • Maintenance of cell cultures on weekends
