Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit |
Our goal, is to contribute to a more water secure by advancing scientific research, developing policy, and using evidence to inform practice. The Institute also serves as a platform for mobilizing the knowledge, expertise, and resources that exist across
UNC to address critical water and sanitation challenges within the U.S and abroad. The Water Institute includes a core staff and researchers and a network of experts and faculty members throughout the University that lead and drive research on areas related to access to safe drinking water and sanitation, water resources management, and transboundary water. |
Position Summary |
This position will coordinate with Water Institute (WI) management, staff, and students to deliver a world-class, professional, organized, science-driven, inclusive, and globally accessible conference.
Since its founding in 2009, the goal of the Water Institute (WI) at
UNC has been to inform the way the world works on water, sanitation, and hygiene issues by generating the evidence that drives improvements in both practice and policy. The annual
UNC Water and Health Conference is intended to advance these goals by creating a widely accessible space where policymakers, practitioners and researchers can gather to review the evidence, interrogate the science, and improve old and develop new approaches to expanding WaSH access.
The 2022 Conference was a landmark event bringing together stakeholders from over 100 countries around the world with more than 2,400 people registering to attend the week-long event in virtual and in-person format. More than 280 unique organizations and universities were represented. The 2023 Conference continued to explore the latest learnings around WaSH and will include plenaries, side events, verbal presentations, and poster presentations. |
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements |
Bachelor's degree in business administration or a related discipline; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions. |

* Clear, professional, competent verbal and written communication skills.
* Knowledge of effective community engagement and outreach strategies.
* Commitment to high quality work products.
* Follow projects through from concept to completion. |
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience |
* Proven track record delivering high-stakes, high-impact events requiring complex planning and successful engagement of notable participants.
* Extremely organized with great attention to detail.
* Superior collaboration, teamwork, and team leadership skills.
* Experience overseeing budgets and contracts.
* Committed to efficient, excellent, effective event management through listening, clear communication and conducting business with cultural and contextual sensitivity.
* Have good working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Power Point and SharePoint and event registration software.
* Certified Meeting Professional (
CMP) preferred.
* Higher Education work experience preferred. |
