The Fitness teacher plans, organizes and implements a college preparatory curriculum grounded in the mission of DSHA and the Qualities of the Graduate. Creates an environment that is learner-centered, collaborative, and rigorous, guided by best practices in single-gender education for young women. Integrates Catholic principles, including the principles of the Sisters of the Divine Savior, into daily practice. Commits to growth in all areas of the Profile of the Salvatorian Educator. Supports the whole person development of students through involvement in various opportunities: retreats, clubs, sports, Student Council, and others. Actively participates in TSC activities, programs and endeavors and seeks to enhance one's personal faith life.

The Director of Fitness Center Operations and Programming plans, directs and supervises the 3500 square foot Sarah M. Hegarty Fitness Center. The Director of Fitness Center Operations is responsible for developing and overseeing all programs after school and in the summer within the Sarah M. Hegarty Fitness Center, in collaboration with the Athletic Director. The Director supervises the strength and conditioning coaches and fitness center assistants needed to operate the Fitness Center and programming.

Job Start-End Date:

Full-time teaching starting August 2025; part-time assistance with summer programming starting in June preferred.

Compensation:

We offer a competitive compensation and benefits package. Additional stipends provided for school year and summer work as the Director of Fitness Center Operations & Programming.

Teaching Responsibilities:

  • Teach full-time courseload of Fitness classes to high school students.
  • Collaborate with colleagues, school counselors, and administrators in support of student learning.
  • Plan lessons, create assignments and assessments, and develop other classroom opportunities to provide an engaging learning experience for all students.
  • Demonstrate a dedication to learning about our Catholic mission and then put into practice our Catholic mission and our Quality values, supporting students and colleagues in this endeavor.
  • Commit to creating classroom experiences that support our diverse student body and celebrate that diversity that is rooted in our Catholic mission and the mission of the Sisters of the Divine Savior, our sponsoring order.
  • Commit to helping all students, regardless of their background, prior preparation, or skill level, grow in science understanding and skill application, and grow in the Qualities of the Graduate.

Director of Fitness Center Operations and Programming Responsibilities:

  • Maintain a religious atmosphere for students to provide a good Christian model and example and to encourage spiritual growth in DSHA students by sharing, supporting and integrating the Catholic faith in all activities.
  • Establish written policies and procedures for student usage and staff usage, to facilitate the day-to-day operation of the fitness center.
  • Generate and manage the annual fitness center budget and plan for maintenance and improvement of the fitness center.
  • Develop and implement an equipment cleaning schedule which will be the responsibility of the Director of Fitness and Performance. Coordinate a regular floor cleaning, garbage removal and other general cleaning program with the maintenance department.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor the facility's safety inspection and maintenance programs.
  • Select/purchase new equipment and obtain any required bid specifications for equipment.
  • Create and post a monthly after school open fitness center hours schedule to include supervision coverage plan.
  • Manage, supervise, and train the strength and conditioning coach, fitness center staff members, and interns.
  • Responsible for hiring seasonal (fall, winter, spring, summer) strength and conditioning coaches and fitness center staff, and for providing proper supervision coverage during the summer and after school (fall, winter, spring). This includes identifying the number of required supervisors, hours of supervision, hiring of additional supervisors and scheduling supervisors.
  • Develop and maintain a Sarah M. Hegarty Fitness Center page on the school website.
  • Coordinate programming for athletes and non-athletes with the strength and conditioning coach during the summer.
  • Develop, budget, market, and run the summer strength and conditioning camps, speed/agility camps, to include current and prospective students.
  • Develop and lead summer programming for middle school and current DSHA students.
  • Completes other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

As the Director of Fitness Center Operations and Programming, supervises strength and conditioning coaches and fitness center staff.

Qualifications:

Education and/or Experience:

Minimum qualifications include: (a) Bachelor's degree (master's degree is preferred) in fitness/exercise science from an accredited institution, (b) 2-3 years of related work experience, (c) NSCA or ACSM certification, (d) experience working with high school or college students/athletes in the areas of fitness and performance training, (e) a strong understanding of curriculum and instruction at the secondary level, and (f) relevant teaching experience. Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development. Demonstrated personal fitness and wellness habits.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

As a teacher, exhibit the Qualities of the Graduate--critical thinker, communicator, believer and leader-and acts as a role model to students by fulfilling the Profile of the DSHA Teacher; self-motivated with high work standards; ability to engage high school-age girls; commitment to single-gender, Catholic education; collaborative, team-oriented; attention to detail, organization and planning; strong interpersonal, writing and organizational skills; displays initiative and passion towards student and colleague empowerment; accepts personal responsibility; is open and transparent regarding professional duties; and, open-minded, flexible and adaptable.

As the Director of Fitness Center Operations & Programming, effective oral, written and presentation skills are essential for success in the position. Ability to work with diverse groups and to communicate effectively with all constituents. Incumbent must be highly organized, detail oriented and able to work on multiple projects within specific timeframes with varying deadlines. Proficient computer skills with experience using MS Office software, Outlook, internal databases, the Internet and email is required. Employee development and performance management skills are essential. Must be able to run a dynamic and safe fitness center.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Highly effective communication skills, strong organizational skills, and a strong desire to assist all students to be successful are also required.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to talk and hear; and use hands to finger, handle, or touch objects or controls. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, stoop, bend and/or reach above the shoulders. Incumbent must be able to operate all physical fitness equipment and demonstrate proper use.

The incumbent must occasionally lift up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Employee must also be able to demonstrate a wide range of fitness and athletic exercises.

Work Environment:

The work takes place primarily in an office/school environment
