The company provides the following compensation range that it believes in good faith it might pay and/or offer for this position. Salary Range: $22-28/hr
We are currently hiring a Field Test Engineering Intern for a summer term position, from June 2025 to August 2025 (3 months), at our Hitachi Rail office in New York.
Support integration and test activities comprising of field work of on-going project activities. Perform Field Change modification to existing designs as needed; Support field troubleshooting, maintenance in CBTC equipment such as vehicle and wayside systems, and other external tasks related to test documentation and formalization of reports.
Key Accountabilities:
Support on-site installation and maintenance of Non-CBTC and CBTC equipment for wayside systems under the supervision of an experienced field tester.
Support work process procedures as per customer requirements.
Identify problems detected during tests and correct them as needed.
Provide support in troubleshooting and repairing CBTC equipment as required.
Provide support for test carborne and wayside activities, including the planning of field activities.
Provide technical support for all operational matters related to the functionality of wayside subsystems.
Collaborate with diverse departments and become involved in all phases of integration, commissioning, and support.
Promote customer relations and company credibility.
Investigate and troubleshoot system anomalies through analysis of data files, design documentation, and interaction with development departments.
Summarize and detail test activities in both informal and formal test reports.
Key Requirements:
The successful candidate should be working towards a bachelor's or master's degree from an accredited university or college in Electrical, Mechanical, Computer Science, or a related field.
Demonstrates and applies a broad knowledge of field of specialization through successful completion of moderately complex assignments with a scholastic context
Excellent organizational and communications skills, both verbal and written, and good interpersonal skills
Demonstrated fluency and understanding/comprehension in oral and written English
Experience with breaking down complex topics into simple formats preferred
Ability to understand and take meaning from trends of data.
Critical thinking, able to identify and implement better efficiencies and process improvements
Effective communication skills to interact professionally with all levels inside and outside the organization.
Flexibility to take on additional projects and adapt to changes in priorities
The ability to work 40 hours a week in a hybrid environment for the duration of the internship is essential. The job location (office or field) may vary week to week depending on project needs.
Preferred Qualifications:
Field experience in a rail transit installation, testing, or support environment, or in a similar technology application, is highly desirable.
Experience in direct customer interaction.
Enthusiasm for a dynamic and flexible work environment, specifically in a field setting.
Physical Demands:
Capacity to move in the field environment: train track, car shop, remote technical rooms and train station
Capacity to board the train from a car pit
Capacity to read field instruments such as meters or oscilloscope
Special Position Requirements:
Position will not have direct or indirect access to hardware, software, technology or technical data controlled under Canadian and/or US export control laws.
Position will not have access to Canadian Controlled Goods or Canadian classified information OR US classified information.
Wear protective equipment such as safety vest, hard hat, safety boots, safety glasses, and flash light, when required.
Position requires flexible work schedule. Work hours varying in length and schedule. Work hours may include a nonstandard workweek.
Compliance with Federal regulations for drugs and/or alcohol including initial negative screen and random negative testing.
