Job Title: Policy and Planning Specialist I

Location: Richmond VA, 23230

Pay Rate: $26.49/hr. without benefits

Duration: 03 months

Work Hours: General Shift Timing

Required Skills:

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential for connecting with respondents and gathering necessary information.
  • Comfortable talking on the phone to follow up with respondents
  • Ability to take and convey sensitive information over the phone, email, mail and/or fax.
  • Ability to work effectively under strict deadlines while managing a high volume of information.
  • Persistence and professionalism in phone interactions.


Role & Responsibilities:

Perform survey activities for the Annual Survey of Occupational Injuries and Illnesses, contacting respondents to correct and/or clarify survey information:

  • Perform survey activities of a specified share of the incoming survey responses.
  • Respond to data errors in a timely manner (within 48 hours of receiving them) with the preference being to call the respondent before emailing them for additional information - email will be used when no telephone number can be found.
  • Proactively engage with establishments by prioritizing outreach during non-response period (for example, by cold calling assigned establishments, using email as a secondary option when telephone numbers are unavailable.)


Support mail out activities for Annual Survey of Occupational Injuries and Illnesses:

  • Code demographic and case characteristics for a specified share of the Annual Survey according to accuracy specifications established by BLS. Exceed coding deadlines established by BLS and meet deadlines established by Virginia.


Code individual cases for the Annual Survey of Occupational Injuries and Illnesses:

  • Code demographic and case characteristics for a specified share of the Annual Survey according to accuracy specifications established by BLS. Exceed coding deadlines established by BLS and meet deadlines established by Virginia.
  • Expect to code at least 20 cases a week in the period.
