Basic Function

The CVO Laboratory Supervisor will provide leadership and development of lab technicians by coaching, directing and motivating while providing consistent and fair supervision. The lab supervisor should be self-directing, self-motivated and express ideas and information effectively to all levels of the organization from technician to plant management. A candidate for this position should be able to effectively manage performance, champion change, influence and guide, be a Company advocate, and make sound decisions in the absence of clear direction or written guidelines.

Roles & Responsibilities

* Manage activities within their area of responsibility on a daily basis.

* Ensure the availability of all necessary resources (people, material, equipment, tools, parts, etc.) are in order to guarantee safe and reliable operation and/or maintenance of site assets

* Adhere to guidelines to create consistency with other areas within the site with similar roles and responsibilities

* Ensures compliance with Company Operational Excellence Standards and site procedures that support those standards.

* Drives performance in the lab through understanding the labs role in supporting operational business plans and utilizes lab practices and procedures.

* Develops hourly lab technician personnel through coaching, feedback, and job assignments.

* Ensure lab technicians progress through job qualifications and /or requalification. Responsible for approximately 12 lab technicians on 1 rotating shift located at the North and South laboratories in Channelview.

* Assists in schedules and assignments for hourly personnel to staff the Lab. Ensure all areas are covered with qualified personnel. Responsible for managing OT coverage, personnel issues and overall performance of the Lab.

Min. Qualifications

* A minimum of 6 years of experience is required in the petrochemical or manufacturing industry, alternatively 4 years of experience with a degree

* Minimum High school diploma or GED equivalent

* Strong leadership and interpersonal skills are required due to the frequent interaction with department personnel and other functional groups

* Strong communication skills - can accurately and effectively communicate information both written and verbally

* The critical competencies for this position are teamwork, problem solving and decision-making, results orientation, initiative, relationship building, and technological orientation

* Willing and able to work 12-hour, 4-day rotating shifts, weekends and holidays

* Must be able to understand and adhere to strict environmental, health, safety, security and quality policies

* Must have strong computer skills including Microsoft Office

* Must possess or obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) card prior to first day of employment.

Preferred Qualifications

* Previous manufacturing Laboratory experience

* Possesses knowledge of manufacturing laboratory operations and equipment

* Previous leadership/supervisory experience

* Degree in Chemistry or related Sciences

* Experience with EPAS and SAP
