Job # EM25015 Job Title System Engineering Manager Office Location Roanoke, VA Business/Department Industrial Systems Sales Territory, if applicable N/A General Role Description Develop and maintain a software and hardware system engineering team to meet Mid-Range Plan (MRP) commitments within a set of capital and human resources on a rolling 2 year time horizon. Role Accountabilities - Build and lead a team of committed and capable employees to ensure successful engineering of products and systems delivered to customers - Create, implement and monitor a process for efficient resource assignments - Develop, monitor and manage team engineering capitalization budgets to meet business targets - Provide input for the development, implementation, and management of a process to acquire and monitor key information on engineering performance, such as, but not limited to, sales, costs, margin and schedules, as requested - Use project performance data to make or suggest necessary adjustments to ensure that sales and margins on engineering projects meet business unit targets - Provide input for the development, implementation, and management of a process to provide status updates to business and functional units, and customers, and proactively recommend improvements, as requested - Provide input for the development of a process to track and measure quality and efficiency, as requested - Identify opportunities, initiate, and lead process improvement initiatives - Define and implement a process to monitor skill base within the team - Monitor skill base within the team and report opportunities for skills improvement to immediate manager - Ensure skills database is accurate and current - Ensure team members possess the necessary knowledge and skills and are trained to meet current and future needs per the business unit (BU) MRP - Cooperate with other functional groups and other group companies to ensure projects are executed successfully - Establish and maintain a pool of qualified contract engineers to meet current and future needs per the BU MRP - Ensure client issues are resolved, at job site if necessary. Escalate to appropriate management as needed General Employee Accountabilities -Bring full effort to bear on tasks assigned by manager -Give manager best advice -Give earliest notice when work cannot be delivered as specified -Cooperate and collaborate with peers and interact cross-organizationally as specified by manager -Exemplify Company Core Values: Integrity, Client Focus, Team Orientation, and Personal Commitment -Comply with all Company policies, practices, and procedures and all regulations and laws -Recommend viable improvements proactively -Ensure effective utilization of business tools and processes Manager Accountabilities - Build and lead a team of committed and capable employees - Plan for, appropriately assign, resource, and integrate the work of the team - Lead, expect, and implement continuous improvement - Own the output of the team - Ensure team members fulfill functional and general employee accountabilities - Exercise effective managerial leadership to include -Two-way managerial team working -Fair and just treatment of direct reports -Context setting -Planning -Task assignment -Ongoing performance management -Coaching -Selection and orientation -De-selection and dismissal Minimum Qualifications - Bachelor of science in electrical, electronic, mechanical or computer engineering or equivalent via education and/or work experience - 5 years of technical leadership or technical management experience in any combination of the metals, material handling, paper, or related general industries - 10 years of experience specifying, designing and/or commissioning electrical and automation systems for metals, material handling, paper, or related general industries - Demonstrated success leading high performance engineering teams to accomplish business goals - Demonstrated successful working relationships with customers, suppliers, and other internal and external contacts - Demonstrated successful and positive leadership, interpersonal, organizational, administrative, and communication skills - Demonstrated successful working relationships with consultant engineering firms - Demonstrated continuous improvement in areas of responsibility - Demonstrated success managing financial results to plan in a manufacturing or industrial services business - Demonstrated experience in the review of the commercial terms and technical requirements of contract documents to ensure that project requirements are met and that identified risks to the business are managed effectively - Proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Outlook, MS Projects and an ERP business system - Availability to travel domestically and internationally, approximately 15%, sometimes on short notice Preferred Qualifications - Proficiency in Oracle - Demonstrated success leading remotely located teams Link to TMEIC Corporation Americas website: https://www.tmeic.com/.
