Senior Highway Engineer

ABOUT THE POSITION

Senior Highway Engineer | Hybrid | Providence, RI

VHB's growing Providence, RI office is seeking an experienced Senior Highway Engineer to join our Transportation team. Duties include leading the design, development, and execution of complex highway and transportation engineering projects.

Responsibilities

• Lead the conceptual development of 3D modeling for roadway projects
• Preparation and review of roadway design criteria, calculations, drawings, estimates, and specifications
• Provide technical guidance to junior level engineers
• Design of highways and roads including development of geometric layout, grading and drainage, working with utilities, signing, striping and environmental permitting
• Prepare and/or review design criteria, calculations, drawings, quantity estimates and specifications
• Traffic Control and Constructability development and review
• Typical section development and pavement design
• Coordination with design team, clients, subconsultants, and stakeholders
• Construction support services (review of submittals and RFIs)
• Providing technical QA/QC

Skills and Attributes

• Ability to handle multiple concurrent projects
• Knowledge of the policies, procedures and design standards of local and state agencies
• Working knowledge of programs such as Civil3D, Open Roads, and Hydro CAD is a plus
• Ability to manage workload and meet deadlines
• Team oriented and motivated to lead/mentor junior staff
• Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
• Self-motivated, highly organized, and detail oriented

Qualifications

• 8-11 years of civil transportation design engineering experience required
• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related field required
• Master's degree a plus (may substitute for 1 year of experience)
• PE license required
