Geotechnical or Construction Materials Project Manager

S&ME is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Geotechnical or Construction Materials Project Manager to become part of our Construction Services team in Wilmington, NC. Join S&ME today and help us provide engineering solutions to our clients!

What You Will Do:

As a Geotechnical or Construction Materials Project Manager, you will lead complex projects, mentor team members, and collaborate with leadership to ensure the success of geotechnical and construction materials testing initiatives. With opportunities for operational leadership, this role offers a clear path for professional growth within a rapidly expanding office.




  • Manage the execution of geotechnical and construction materials testing projects, ensuring budgets, schedules, and quality standards are met.



  • Partner with clients to understand their goals, tailoring services to exceed expectations and foster long-term relationships.



  • Support and guide engineers, project managers, and field staff, promoting a culture of excellence and growth.



  • Identify opportunities to expand our presence, build local client networks, and drive revenue growth through strategic initiatives.



  • Develop and review complex project proposals, reports, and recommendations that meet industry and client standards.





Who You Are:




  • You have a Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.



  • You have a minimum of 8 years of experience in geotechnical or construction materials testing, including project management.



  • You have a minimum of 4 years in a leadership role with a focus on team and project development.



  • You have a strong understanding of ASTM, AASHTO, and DOT standards and experience with IBC Special Inspections.



  • Preferred: Experience managing projects in rapidly growing markets or leading multi-disciplinary teams is a plus.





Working Conditions and Physical Demands:

You are willing and able to perform the physical demands of this position with the use of Company-provided Personal Protective Equipment such as:




  • Working outdoors the majority of the time in varying weather conditions



  • Walking over rough, uneven terrain and standing for potentially up to 12 hours a day



  • Routinely lifting and carrying 40-50lbs (field/laboratory samples and equipment)



  • Maneuvering field equipment safely, such as a loaded wheelbarrow, on uneven ground around active construction sites
