Job Summary

This is the 5th level of a 5 classification hierarchy. Employees at this level act as a subject matter expert for the generation interconnection business and is able solve the most complex generation interconnection issues, manage work or policies that may stretch across all jurisdictions and provide oversight in company' s generation interconnection business. The generation interconnection business includes any interconnection studies, contracts, construction projects, operational support or strategy including regulatory procedures. The incumbent represents the company in the highest authority role to any interconnection counterparty/industry entity, prior to management for all external relations. This level has a wide latitude for unreviewed work. Incumbents are expected to have advanced skills, work independently and are to be considered industry experts in their discipline or in a particular field with the ability to testify in regulatory procedures. They consult on strategic and highly complex work.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ensure continual alignment between generation interconnection business processes and regulatory generation interconnection procedures
  • Identify and lead interconnection business improvements to accomplish the company's strategic goals including any changes requiring regulatory procedural filings with the ability to testify in any related regulatory hearings
  • Train and mentor interconnection account managers
  • Manage interconnection customers' requests throughout the entire interconnection lifecycle from study through post commercial operations
  • Maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders with the ability to foresee and proactively react to emerging issues
  • Lead implementation of key regulatory changes to ensure compliance among internal and external stakeholders.

Basic/Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Engineering, or Other Related Degree
  • 12 years related work experience

Desired Qualifications

  • Master's degree in business or
  • Master's degree in engineering

Additional Preferred Qualifications

  • Utility or 3rd party interconnection experience
  • Experience with FERC and/or State regulated interconnection procedures
  • Experience with Power Purchase Agreements (PPA)
  • Experience in the Energy Wholesale Market
  • Knowledge of Duke Energy rates and service regulations.
  • A good understanding of renewable energy growth and industry trend.
  • Ability to deal with ambiguity and complexity.
  • Experience with Customer Relationship Management software applications
  • Excellent oral and written presentation and interpersonal communication skills. Interacts effectively. Ability to articulate clearly and concisely in a compelling manner to engage others to drive issue resolution.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional collaboration on complex issues.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage multiple projects, tasks and issues with attention to details. Have a sense of urgency to resolve customer and regulatory issues.
  • Proven ability to develop solutions, resolve problems, manage and implement projects and influence others.

Working Conditions

  • Mostly office, some utility site visits
  • Hybrid Mobility Classification - Work will be performed from both remote and onsite locations after the onboarding period. However, hybrid employees should live within a reasonable daily commute to the designated Duke Energy facility.
