Position Custom Scope
Reporting to UCR Facilities Building Mechanic/ HVAC Supervisor, the Building Equipment Mechanic performs a variety of journey-level work related to the repair, maintenance, installation, troubleshooting, and inspection of commercial building mechanical equipment. The Building Equipment Mechanic supports the maintenance and operation of other campus and central plant equipment including but not limited to: high-pressure steam systems, Energy Management Control Systems (EMS), condensate return systems, and scientific equipment such as autoclaves. Responds to emergency situations after hours to mitigate and/or resolve immediate building concerns or safety issues. Performs all job duties in adherence with University and departmental safety guidelines. Communicates effectively with colleagues, staff, faculty, and students.

Building Mechanical Maintenance & Repair: Performs layouts, installations, repairs, inspections, troubleshoots, maintains, and modifications to campus climate control/building mechanical systems, heating/heat recovery systems, dual duct systems, ventilation systems, industrial/chemical fume hoods, air conditioning, cooling systems, hydronic systems and associated components. Maintains and repairs air compressors, air handler systems, large and small air volume equipment, heat exchangers, fans and fan motors, pump motors, electronic controls, high pressure steam systems, overcurrent and other equipment projection devices. Operates and maintains all electronic, mechanical, and pneumatic controls. Installs and troubleshoots all types of compressors, valves, strainers, steam traps and piping systems (steel, copper, brass, stainless steel, ABS and PVC). Performs preventative maintenance and testing on all building mechanical systems and climate control equipment according to manufacture and/or campus requirements. Performs brazing and soldering, pipe bending, electrical wiring, plumbing, fabrication and general mechanical repair. Collaborates with other skilled trades and Facilities Services team members to complete minor renovation projects and maintenance projects. Maintains knowledge of building and safety codes, hazardous material handling and disposal. | 80 % | Shop Support: Maintains working knowledge of the proper and safe usage of building mechanical equipment. Performs computer input within the work order system for recording of labor and materials used in work performed. Maintains clear and accurate documentation of all inspections, testing, and maintenance performed. Updates equipment and campus utility map documentation, specifications, and drawings as needed. Cleans truck/shop and maintains organization of materials and tools. Accounts for shop parts/supplies inventory and reports supplies needed for restock. Consults with supervisor or lead for technical information and guidance. Interprets prints, schematics, wiring diagrams, flow charts, and written descriptions of functions and project requirements. Supports maintenance projects and programmatic work assignments. Maintains accurate records and completes paperwork in a neat and timely manner.
