Job Description: Responsible for quality care for patients and assures a safe environment. Provides first level supervision and evaluation to nursing care staff including Registered Nurses, LPN's, Medical Assistants, Medical Technicians, Patient Aides, and Clerks. Nursing personnel prepares assignments for areas of responsibility while considering the staffing needs across the organization. Delegates duties to appropriate staff. Demonstrates expert clinical nursing care as a member of the health care team. Identify the need for crisis intervention for staff, patients, and families through assessment, diagnosis, planning, intervention, and evaluation including all codes, incident management and special circumstances. Performs duties of a licensed nurse as needed. Assists in evaluating nursing goals and treatment philosophy. Develops nursing practices and standards of care. Demonstrates interpersonal skills that enhance communication with both internal and external customers. Documentation and performance improvement duties Completes annually required training according to established time frames. Adheres to zero tolerance for patient abuse and maintains ethical standard for treatment of patients. Participates in the orientation and success of new employees through direct supervision, 90-day evaluations, and goal setting. Follows established regulatory personnel and department standards that include guidelines for proper professional development and maintenance of competent skill levels through internal and external resources. EDUCATION Bachelor's Degree in Nursing from an accredited nursing school preferred and holds a Kentucky registered nursing license or valid work permit issued by the Kentucky Board of Nursing. Advanced knowledge of psychiatric, med-surg, and/or primary care nursing. Demonstrates competence in a range of nursing skills and advanced clinical skills. Good interpersonal and communication skills. Strong leadership qualities and supervisory skills. EXPERIENCE BSN with three years' nursing experience; or ADN with five years' experience including three years in psychiatric nursing experience required and commitment to obtain BSN within 3 years; or more than 7 years' experience as an LPN with at least three years in psychiatric nursing and commitment to obtain BSN within 5 years. Candidate must demonstrate leadership characteristics. PHYSICAL DEMANDS Position requires lifting 50 pounds maximum, with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 25 pounds. Working conditions involve continuous or near-continuous exposure to extreme levels of temperature, noise, air pollution, or chemical gases or substances. Normal work tasks may involve a high level of frequent and ongoing exposure to blood, body fluids or tissue.
