Groundskeeper I

Woodson Complex

Description

Performs skilled journey-level grounds construction and maintenance work; operates a variety of vehicles and truck-mounted, attached, towed, and light motorized equipment.

Qualifications

Required

  • Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school or possession of a General Equivalency Diploma (GED) certificate.
  • Some experience in grounds maintenance at the apprentice II or equivalent level.
  • Possession of an appropriate, valid motor vehicle operator's license with a good driving record.
  • May be required to operate a commercial motor vehicle, as defined below, and possess a Commercial Driver's License CDL-A.
  • "Commercial Motor Vehicle" is defined as a motor vehicle or combination of motor vehicles used in commerce to transport passengers or property if the motor vehicle has any of the following:
    • A gross vehicle weight rating of 26,001 or more pounds inclusive of a towed unit with a gross vehicle weight rating of more than 10,000 pounds.
    • A gross vehicle weight rating of 26,001 or more pounds.
    • Is designed to transport 16 or more passengers, including the driver.
    • Is of any size and is used in the transportation of hazardous materials requiring placards.
  • May be required to work an evening and/or night shift on a regular or rotating basis, accept call-back overtime or regular overtime, and/or agree to assume an emergency call-out list status.
  • Knowledge of the methods and skills in the use of equipment, materials, and tools appropriate for grounds maintenance on a variety of surfaces and terrains.
  • Knowledge of common hazards and necessary safety precautions.
  • Knowledge of local, state, and national codes.
  • Ability to perform mechanical minor repairs on heavy tools and equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret instructions, diagrams, sketches, blueprints, and manufacturers' manuals.
  • Capability to estimate time and material needs and to perform routine tasks and arithmetic computations.
Preferred
  • Completion of an acceptable apprentice-level landscape, hardscape, or public works training program.
  • Basic computer skills.

$43,163 - $72,860
