JOB TITLE: Clinical Assistant Professor JOB PURPOSE: The University of Wyoming School of Pharmacy is seeking to hire one full-time (12-month appointment), non-tenure track faculty member with expertise in either ambulatory care or inpatient internal medicine services. This faculty position will be hired at the level of assistant professor within the Department of Pharmacy Practice. Individuals in this position will contribute to teaching, service, and scholarship, supporting the mission and vision of the University of Wyoming School of Pharmacy. Teaching responsibilities include experiential instruction at an assigned practice site, as well as didactic teaching on campus in team-taught longitudinal course series. Additional responsibilities include scholarship, academic service, professional & community service, and other duties as assigned. Faculty members are expected to develop and/or advance ambulatory care or internal medicine services at the Veteran Affairs Medical Center, in Cheyenne, WY. Faculty members would be expected to travel to the main campus in Laramie, WY, for didactic teaching and service activities that require a physical presence on campus. Established in 1946, the University of Wyoming School of Pharmacy just recently celebrated its 75th anniversary in pharmacy education. The School of Pharmacy is located on the main University of Wyoming campus in Laramie, WY, a beautiful area known for abundant sunshine and year-round recreational activities. Within the College of Health Sciences, it partners with training programs in nursing, communication disorders, social work, and kinesiology and health, as well as the WWAMI Medical Education program and Wyoming Institute for Disabilities to provide a wide-range of training opportunities across many disciplines. In addition to its four-year Doctor of Pharmacy program (the only PharmD program in the state of Wyoming), the School of Pharmacy also oversees its online M.S. in Health Services Administration program, and the UW-Casper Medical Laboratory Sciences program. The health care system serves nearly 24,000 Veterans and is a 22-bed general medical facility that offers acute, chronic inpatient and outpatient services. The facility offers extended care services for Veterans within the 42-bed Community Living Center and in-patient behavioral health with a 10-bed Domiciliary. The primary role of the Clinical Pharmacist Practitioner (CPP) within the VA involves direct patient care utilizing an advanced Scope of Practice (SOP) relative to Pharmacotherapy/Disease State Management within the interdisciplinary team setting. The CPP will provide comprehensive medication management of complex patients with acute and chronic disease states by rounding with the team, face-to-face, telephone, and telehealth encounters or indirect care and chart reviews. The CPP functions at the highest level of clinical practice, working independently under their scope of practice as defined by Cheyenne VA Health Care System (CVAHCS) to directly care for patients. The CPP serves as a mid-level provider who functions to initiate, modify or discontinue medication therapy and as a consultant for intensive medication therapy management. This includes, but is not limited to, the following: designing, implementing, assessing, monitoring and documenting therapeutic plans utilizing the most effective, least toxic and most economical medication treatments; helping achieve positive patient centric outcomes through direct and indirect interactions with patients, providers, and interdisciplinary teams in assigned areas; performing physical assessments; and ordering laboratory and other tests to help determine efficacy and toxicity of medication therapy. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: - Precept and teach four-week Ambulatory Care (or Internal Medicine) I and II Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experience blocks throughout the calendar year (average is two students per rotation block for six months out of the year). - Teach in the didactic setting on campus in team-taught courses during the academic year (Therapeutics course sequence, Clinical Pharmacokinetics, and Pharmacy Skills course sequence). - Advise pharmacy students. - Engage in scholarly activity. - Serve on school, college and university and professional society committees. - Provide drug therapy management and direct patient care services for patients within the Cheyenne Veteran Affairs Medical Center. SUPPLEMENTAL FUNCTIONS: Travel to the Laramie campus as required. COMPETENCIES: Adaptability, attention to detail, teamwork, effective written and verbal communication, collegiality.
