Scope of Position:

The Regional Manager of Development for the Spokane Corps will have a deep commitment to the mission of The Salvation Army, which will be evident in his/her ability to communicate and exemplify this mission in his/her professional life and the manner in which he/she represents The Salvation Army in the community. At the direction of the Spokane Corps Officers and the Regional Director of Development, the Regional Development Manager will execute key details of the established marketing and communications plan as well as will organize and implement all fundraising events for the development department. This individual will collaborate with the Spokane Corps Officers, programs directors, staff, volunteers and vendors to ensure the strategies, analytics, execution and reporting meet or exceed expectations, are on time and are on budget. The person in this position will participate in a cross functional team of development professionals to support all efforts of the development department.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Possess a Bachelors degree or comparable experience, plus a minimum of three years of experience in a non-profit fundraising role with a proven track record of improving donor relationships
  • Demonstrates familiarity with fundraising, marketing, communications, event management and community relations principles
  • Possess effective interpersonal, conversational and presentation skills, demonstrating emotional intelligence, situational awareness, excellent writing abilities and strong case development and pitching skills
  • Works as a team player, able to check ego at the door, with an ability to collaborate effectively with officers, staff and volunteers for successful achievement of position and department goals.
  • Works independently in a fast-paced environment. Must be highly organized and able to effectively manage multiple projects and competing priorities with professionalism and grace.
  • Demonstrates goal-orientation, with a drive to achieve agreed upon goals within agreed upon timeframes
  • Maintains accurate and well-organized records and ensures confidentiality of all department records and files. Effectively uses the donor database according to Salvation Army protocols
  • Possess proven project and event management skills
  • Demonstrates strong customer service and interpersonal skills
  • Works with a high level of accuracy and thoroughness
  • Possess strong communication skills (written, verbal, and graphic)
  • Has ability to work with a broad audience, including but not limited to: TSA officers and staff, Advisory Board Committee members, non-profit, government, and corporate groups

  • Performs other development duties as requested


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:



  • Executes the development and implementation of fundraising and special events, various donor cultivation and recognition events, public relations and media events and additional events that help build community relationships
  • Ensures fundraising event revenue targets are met or exceeded
  • Organizes all aspects of event production including project plans, budget tracking, audience development, collateral, table placement, volunteer management, vendor production and management, event logistics and event communication plans
  • Assists in the cultivation, solicitation, follow-up and recognition process for individual, corporate and foundation partners for assigned special events
  • Procures sites for events and follows through on all site-specific details
  • Coordinates with vendors in developing contracts for all aspects of support: advertising, catering, decoration, music, sound production, talent and giveaways
  • Research and develops new event and marketing possibilities
  • Manage production of Spokane Corps annual report. Gathers program stats, stories, and images in alignment with marketing messages and mission. Oversees distribution of the report to donors and other necessary parties.
  • Coordinates all advertising campaigns and collaborates with advertising agencies to fulfill project goals and meet revenue targets
  • Manages communication activities by contributing to the content calendar, writing and editing content for all communication channels including but not limited to talking points, articles, client stories, social media posts, email communications and general messaging
  • Manages web-site activity by creating and posting content and managing analytics and audits
  • Actively tells the Spokane Corps' story through all communication channels to engage the community, particularly in identifying, gathering and writing client stories
  • Participates in media relations by writing and circulating press releases, supporting media interviews and developing relationships with media contacts
  • Project manages the creation and updating of marketing materials and printed collateral
  • Maintains a close and positive relationship with Divisional Headquarters and Territorial Headquarters. In addition, keeps abreast of Territorial and National Headquarters activities and properly utilizes the resources available
  • Executes other assigned or delegated projects or duties which relate to or reflect the essential character and nature of this position.


Software-Related Skills:



  • Microsoft suite
  • Working knowledge of integrated database applications and ability to use new software program with basic training
  • Working knowledge of website content management system
  • Ability to maintain, identify, and establish social media avenues, such as Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube, etc.
  • Working knowledge of print/media production such as flyers, brochures, and newsletters
  • Use of cellular phone applications


Working Conditions:



  • Work is performed in a normal office environment where there is little or no physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomfort associated without noise, dust, dirt and similar.
