Description



The Summer program runs from 5/27/25 to 8/1/25 and you should expect to be scheduled around 40 hours per week during program.

The Town of Erie takes pride in offering high-quality, safe and enriching camp experiences and we are looking for individuals who are ready to join us as Camp Counselor - Aides! Camp Erie is a state-licensed camp program for school-aged children and while the bulk of our programming takes place over the summer, we also offer short-term camps during Thanksgiving break, winter break, and spring school breaks.

Under general supervision, staff will perform a variety of duties including specialized instruction and program supervision for the Town's State-Licensed programs. This may include the coordination of staff, camp volunteers, and participants in daily activities

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Camp Duties:



  • Performs duties associated with instructing or leading State-Licensed childcare programs
  • Plans and implements activities for camp participants
  • Provides exceptional customer service to all participants
  • Responds to information requests, comments, and complaints
  • Sets-up and take down required program equipment
  • Leads indoor and outdoor group & participant activities
  • Supervises participants during off-site field trips and activities
  • Provides a welcoming and inclusive environment for a diverse participant population
  • Gives choices and use positive behavioral supports to address camper behaviors
  • Conducts headcounts according to an established schedule


Administrative Duties



  • Maintains area, facilities, supplies and equipment to ensure a safe and sanitary environment
  • Reports any issues or concerns with inventory, facility conditions, policies and incidents to supervisory staff as needed
  • Maintains frequent communications with other staff, participants, parents and volunteers
  • Attends and participates in staff meetings and trainings
  • Ensures the safety of guests and program participants by enforcing all rules and policies
  • Other/Miscellaneous
  • Responds to emergency situations, administers first aid, CPR or other medical attention as needed, and completes incident reports
  • Assists with conducting activities, special events and special projects as required and assigned
  • Performs other related duties as assigned


Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:




  • Must be a minimum of 16 years of age





CERTIFICATES/LICENSES/REGISTRATIONS



  • CPR, First Aid and AED certification or ability to obtain within three months of employment
  • State Licensing Compliance Trainings and Certifications

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIRED:

Knowledge of: To perform this job successfully, an individual must demonstrate leadership and communication skills and must possess basic knowledge of the principles, practices, trends and methods of camp operations and programming in a community setting. Knowledge of guidelines and regulations related to Department, Town, County, State, and Federal policies and procedures also required.

Skills in: Initiative and decision-making; verbal and written communication; supervision, leadership, and interpersonal relationships; basic financial methods of recreational programming; outstanding customer service to a diverse population; administrative functions; time management, meeting deadlines, responding to internal and external requests in a timely manner; the use of standard office equipment, computers, and various software programs; positive and professional working relationships with all Town staff and the community; conflict resolution; handling controversial issues; comprehending instruction, correspondence, and policies and procedures; problem solving; remaining composed in emergency situations and working effectively under stressful circumstances; performing CPR, First Aid, and AED to level of certification.

Environmental Factors:

Work is performed in both indoor and outdoor recreational settings, with time spent in varying environments based on programming needs. Outdoor conditions may include exposure to different weather elements. This role involves engaging with multiple tasks simultaneously and managing competing demands.

Physical Factors:

This position requires frequent movement, including walking, standing, and sitting for extended periods of time. Employees may occasionally run/jog as part of their duties. Tasks involve a wide range of motions, including bending, kneeling, squatting, stooping, lifting, catching, and throwing. Climbing may be required occasionally. This position involves handling various objects, with lifting requirements from 0-30 pounds alone, and lifting with assistance above 30 pounds. Employees may also need to reach for objects at different heights and push/pull objects occasionally, as well as use approved cleaning chemicals frequently. The work environment can be loud due to camp activities and interactions.
