Job Title:Accounting Manager/Controller(focused heavily in AP to start)
Location: North Bergen, NJ
Salary:$110,000-$120,000 will depend on level and experience
Schedule: 5 days per week, on-site

**Must have strong QuickBooks experience
**Must have a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting Finance, Economics, or related field
**Must have an "all hands on deck" attitude and be extremely hands on

Top Responsibilities:
-Additional GL tasks: Bank Reconciliations, Credit Card Reconciliations, Equipment Loans, Loan Reconciliation, (loan is related to fixed assets), depreciation.
-Taking over much of the AP work as it can be a very tedious long process -
-Will eventually be handling the Month End Close

The Role:

We are seeking a hands-on, detail-oriented Accounting Manager to join our close-knit, family-owned business. The ideal candidate will have strong experience using QuickBooks and managing the full accounting cycle, including financial reporting, budgeting, and accounts payable/receivable. This is an exciting opportunity to make a significant impact on our financial operations and collaborate directly with senior leadership.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. General Accounting Oversight:

    • Manage the day-to-day accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and bank reconciliations.
    • Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
    • Maintain and reconcile balance sheet accounts, ensuring all transactions are recorded correctly.
    • QuickBooks Management:

      • Oversee and manage the QuickBooks system to ensure accurate recording of all financial transactions and reporting.
      • Customize QuickBooks as needed to streamline accounting processes and reporting.
      • Generate financial reports from QuickBooks and interpret them for senior management to assist in decision-making.
      • Troubleshoot any issues with QuickBooks and ensure smooth integration with other systems.
      • Financial Reporting & Analysis:

        • Prepare financial statements, budgets, forecasts, and cash flow reports for the family ownership team.
        • Conduct financial analysis, identifying trends, variances, and areas for potential improvement.
        • Work closely with the senior management team to develop financial strategies and advise on financial decisions.
        • Accounts Payable & Receivable Management:

          • Oversee AP and AR functions, ensuring accurate and timely invoicing, collections, and payments.
          • Manage vendor relationships, ensuring payments are made on time and that any issues are promptly addressed.
          • Monitor overdue accounts and work with the team to follow up on collections.
          • Tax Compliance & Filings:

            • Prepare and file local, state, and federal tax returns (sales tax, payroll tax, income tax) in compliance with applicable regulations.
            • Assist with year-end tax preparation and coordinate with external accountants for tax filing.
            • Internal Controls & Compliance:

              • Establish and maintain internal accounting controls to safeguard company assets and ensure compliance with company policies.
              • Ensure accounting practices comply with relevant local, state, and federal regulations.
              • Support annual audit processes and provide requested information to external auditors.
              • Family-Owned Business Focus:

                • Work directly with family leadership to provide financial insights and support decision-making.
                • Foster a culture of transparency, trust, and clear communication with the family and the broader team.
                • Be adaptable to the unique dynamics and operational needs of a family-run business.
                • Team Collaboration & Support:

                  • Supervise and mentor any junior accounting staff, providing guidance and support in their professional development.
                  • Collaborate with other departments to streamline financial processes and ensure alignment across the business.
                  • Other Duties as Assigned:

                    • Participate in ad-hoc financial projects as needed by the family leadership.
                    • Provide support for any other accounting-related needs or special projects within the company.

                    Qualifications:

                    • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
                    • 5+ years of accounting experience, with at least 2-3 years in a managerial or supervisory role.
                    • Proficiency in QuickBooks (QuickBooks Online and/or Desktop).
                    • Solid understanding of accounting principles (GAAP) and financial reporting.
                    • Experience in managing full-cycle accounting and preparing financial statements.
                    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
                    • Excellent organizational, leadership, and communication skills.
                    • Ability to work independently and handle multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.
                    • Experience in a family-owned business or small business environment is a plus.

                    Preferred:

                    • Master's Degree
                    • CPA or similar accounting certification (preferred).
                    • Experience with payroll processing and tax compliance.
