Responsibilities

We are seeking a full-time Junior Sustainability Specialist to join our Sustainability Unit in our New York City office located in Lower Manhattan. NV5's New York City office operates on a four-day work week. Our Sustainability Unit specializes in applying the Envision Sustainable Infrastructure Framework, LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design), Waterfront Edge Design Guidelines (WEDG), and conducting Life Cycle Assessments (LCA), Embodied Carbon Analysis and Planning, Lifecycle Cost Analysis (LCCA), compliance with sustainability regulations, and implementing sustainable and resilient practices for a wide variety of projects. This individual will play a key role in supporting a broad range of projects for both municipal and private sector clients.

Responsibilities:

    Support the application of the Envision Sustainable Infrastructure Framework, LEED, and WEDG to the planning and design of infrastructure projects.
  • Provide sustainable consulting and certification services for various projects related to the built environment.
  • Assist with energy and environmental analysis for planning, design, and construction, aiming for third-party sustainable certifications such as Envision, LEED, and WEDG.
  • Collaborate with internal design teams, clients, and contractors to implement sustainable design practices.
  • Provide guidance to design teams on projects, ensuring consistent and high-quality sustainable design throughout the design and construction phases.
  • Conduct technical and sustainable design reviews of in-house projects.
  • Perform Life Cycle Assessments (LCA), Embodied Carbon Analysis and Planning, and Lifecycle Cost Analysis (LCCA).
  • Ensure compliance with sustainability regulations and apply sustainable and resilient practices and strategies for a wide variety of projects.
  • Gather and analyze data related to sustainability metrics, including energy usage, carbon footprint, and resource efficiency.
  • Assist in the preparation of sustainability reports and documentation for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Engage with clients to communicate sustainability goals and progress.
  • Conduct research on emerging sustainability trends, technologies, and best practices to inform project development.
  • Support the procurement of sustainable materials and products for projects.
  • Coordinate with project managers and other team members to integrate sustainability considerations into project timelines and deliverables.
  • Assist in developing and delivering training sessions on sustainability practices and certifications for internal staff and clients.
  • Participate in sustainability audits and assessments to identify opportunities for improvement and ensure compliance with sustainability goals.


Qualifications

  • Baccalaureate degree in sustainability, environmental studies, civil engineering, environmental engineering, or a related field.
  • Familiarity with New York City, New York State, and federal sustainability regulations.
  • Excellent written, interpersonal, and oral communication skills, with the ability to integrate quantitative and qualitative analyses.
  • Ability to support a wide variety of tasks and work effectively as part of a project team.
  • Envision Sustainability Professional (ENV SP) certification is preferred.
  • WEDG Professional (Waterfront Edge Design Guidelines) certification is preferred.
  • LEED Professional (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification is preferred.
  • Knowledge of ArcGIS and AutoCAD is a plus.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.

70,000.00 to $78,000.00 per year; however, base pay offered may be higher or lower depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience of the candidate. This information is provided per the salary transparency provisions of the NYCHRL. Base pay information is based on market location. Applicants should apply via the NV5 careers site.
