Raymond West is seeking a highly analytical Engineering Manager to join our team, responsible for optimizing engineering processes and identifying areas for improvement through data analysis and process evaluation. You will play a key role in driving efficiency, cost reduction, and overall operational excellence within our engineering department by leveraging your strong quantitative skills and technical understanding.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Primary duties and responsibilities will vary with the specific position. Typical responsibilities are listed below. This list is not inclusive.

Data Analysis and Reporting:



  • Gather, analyze, and interpret complex engineering data from various sources (project management tools, status trackers, etc.) to identify trends, patterns, and key performance indicators (KPIs).


Process Improvement:



  • Identify opportunities to streamline engineering workflows, reduce bottlenecks, and enhance operational efficiency through process mapping, root cause analysis, and lean methodologies.


Performance Metrics:



  • Develop and track key metrics to monitor engineering performance, identify areas for improvement, and measure the impact of implemented changes.


Project Management Support:



  • Collaborate with project teams to analyze project data, identify potential risks, and provide insights to optimize project timelines and budgets.


Collaboration:



  • Work closely with cross-functional teams (engineering, operations, finance) to understand business needs and translate data insights into actionable recommendations.


Additional:



  • Manage the performance and training of a group of Engineers, Designers, and Estimating Engineers that support requests for Designs, 2D and 3D CAD work, Permit submittals, technical produce/subject matter expertise, and estimating projects for quotation.
  • Oversee a team of application engineers that support projects from conception, proposal, testing, installation, and post-launch phases.
  • Establish and refine team KPIs and performance to match company goals.
  • Develop relationships with Sales Teams, Project Managers, and Account Management to understand their customer's needs and assist in winning orders.
  • Ensure that quoted jobs are smoothly turned over and support the Project Management team following order placement.
  • Drive and administer the team's continuous learning and development to stay current and ahead of industry/customer needs.
  • Ensure a timely response to quote requests, permit submittals, as-builts, safety docs, and RFPs.
  • Provide career feedback to team members.
  • Develop recommendations for department improvements.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of various material handling systems, standards, and industry trends (conveyor systems, Kardex, mezzanine, sortation systems, automation, racking, and permits).
  • Generate Proposal Documents including the scope of work, costs, a schedule timeline, and contractual language based on existing boilerplate.
  • Display competence in application concepts, designs, installations, and acceptance of storage systems and all applicable codes.
  • Communicate with Sales representatives when more information is needed to proceed.
  • Set and adhere to schedules for Design work, Estimating, meetings, and other projects.

  • Must be willing to work off-hours as specific needs dictate and willing to assume more responsibility as required.
  • Ability to receive direction and execute orders properly, as defined by the Systems Department Director and company policies.
  • Strong knowledge in Software including AUTOCAD, SharePoint, Word, Excel, Outlook, MS Project
  • Familiarity with seismic design requirements
  • Knowledge of forklift trucks and other materials handling equipment
  • Ability to lead teams of Engineers, Designers, CAD techs successfully towards Key Performance Indicators.
  • Ability to estimate and document materials handling projects.
  • Ability to understand/interpret Building and Fire Codes, including navigating the plan check process.
  • Possess professional thoroughness in preparation of proposals and acceptance of contracts.
  • Previous experience in sales support, factory engineering, and contract preparation/administration is a plus.
  • Ability to perform independently, and in professional team fashion with Sales Representatives, Project Managers, suppliers, installers, clients, and other departments.
  • Ability to assimilate data provided by Sales representatives and customers into an effective materials handling solution.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.


Education/Experience:

Minimum Education and Experience: Determined by position.



  • Highly Preferred, Mechanical Engineering background with over 10 years' experience in application design and installation of conveyor and other materials handling systems.
  • 4-year college degree required
  • Graduate Degree preferred, (less education acceptable with greater demonstrable job experience).


Language Skills:



  • Ability to read, write, and speak fluently in English.
  • Ability to read interpret documents such as Safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before vendors, customers.


Travel Requirement:



  • 30%- 40% (10-20 hours a week)
  • Must be able to be insured by Raymond West.

Pay Range:



  • The salary range for this position is $95,000 - $140,000. The specific pay offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors including but not limited to the candidate's relevant experience, education, and work location.


Qualified candidates must be able to pass a pre-employment physical and drug screen.
